The Role:To determine the financial consequences of product innovation, quantifying the impact of decisions and investments on product cost.
Main tasks:
• Determine the target cost price of components and systems during the development process.
• Initiation of actions to meet the cost price targets.
• Establish the related investment for specific tooling and equipment at suppliers and within our facilities.
• Analyse supplier quotes for product costs and related investments.
• Establish cost estimates for product and tooling costs for in-house manufacture and at external suppliers.
• Establish cost estimates of production processes and execute feasibility studies for alternative production methods.
• Participate in multifunctional teams and support the decision making process by offering adequate cost information regarding process choices and assist in purchasing negotiations.
• The role will work in close cooperation with Product Development, Purchasing, Product Planning and Production Engineering.
Reporting line:
The Cost Engineer will report to the Engineering Accountant
Essential Skills / Qualifications:• Education to degree level preferably in mechanical engineering, automotive engineer or comparable.
• Pressing and fabrication cost estimating expertise is a necessity.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
• Knowledge of different manufacturing process common in automotive and truck industry.
• Six Sigma trained
• Excellent IT skills
• Able to make reliable estimates of cost consequences based on limited technical information
• Automotive Experience
