A major international oil and gas operator seeks a Deepwater Drilling Superintendant to join thier team in Houston, tx.

The Role:
The Drilling Superintendent will be an integral member of Clients USA Drilling and Completions Team. This position is responsible for implementing the detailed drilling plan in the operations phase, for managing all aspects of the daily drilling operation and supervising personnel offshore at the well site. This position will be based in the Houston office and report to the Well Delivery Manager and will work directly with exploration, development, production, finance, land, procurement, and the drilling & completions teams within the clients organization.

The principle role of the position will be the deepwater sub-salt drilling operations required for the 2012/13 Gulf of Mexico exploration drilling campaign with the 6th generation DP Semi-submersible rig. This includes implementation of HSE requirements, well design, programs, reporting, emergency response, logistics, managing costs and materials, contracts, AFE and budgets, contingency planning and supervision of the operations phase for deepwater exploration wells.

To assist in the required data packages in conjunction with clients regulatory coordinator towards achieving all required government approvals for deepwater exploration drilling and for ongoing compliance with that permit during the operations phase.

To contribute to the client safety program through both well design (hazard analysis, risk assessment, management of change, quality procedures, contingency planning and well programs) and also through active participation in office and offshore specific safety programs and strong visible leadership of the contractors used in the drilling program.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•15+ years experience in a senior drilling operations role, minimum 5 years as a Superintendent.
•8+ years in the Gulf of Mexico deepwater environment.
•Up to date knowledge of current US GOM deepwater best practices, the well construction screening tool and well construction interface document, SEMS and the latest regulatory requirements.
•Valid well control training and certification.
•Experience in leading operational teams in hazard & risk analysis, problem solving and contingency planning.
•Proven ability to compile and summarize a wide range of information in a clear and concise manner.
•Fluent written and spoken English.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline
•Advanced computer skills with experience using Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.

Other Requirements/Information
•Houston based position.
•Must be able to sit and/or use a computer for extended periods of time.
•Will require occasional field trips offshore by helicopter.
•Will require field trips to vendor’s yards, shore base and other facilities.
•Will require occasional trips to government agency offices.
•Will require after business hours communication between operations groups and government agencies.
