US independent Oil & Gas company Anadarko Petroleum has allocated $200 million to export gas as part of the Mozambique LNG project, with plans to make a final investment decision in the first half of next year.

The company says that the money represents their portion of costs associated with ongoing site preparation for the shared onshore facilities, and claims it may adjust its capital-investment expectations at the time of the project sanction.

Anadarko are partnering with Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area 1, ONGC Videsh, Bharat PetroResources, PTT Exploration and Oil India on the project.

The gas field is located in Mozambique’s Offshore Area 1, where over 150tn cubic feet of natural gas resources have been discovered. Andarko and partners have claimed half of the gas from the area, which is being called “Africa’s Qatar”, with Italy’s Eni taking production of the rest.

The gas will be pumped onshore to two LNG trains with total nameplate capacity of 12.88 million mt/year and exported to Asia and Europe.

Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2019, with the first LNG export by 2023.
