Bentley celebrates 100th birthday with EXP 100 GT concept

Bentley Motors has decided to celebrate its 100th birthday this week in style, by unveiling a stunning futuristic touring concept that they’ve dubbed the EXP 100 GT. Fully electric and autonomous, the EXP 100 GT gives a glimpse into Bentley’s future as we enter into a new era of mobility – a future in which car manufacturers will be very different companies than they are today.

At the heart of the EXP 100 GT is a focus on ‘user experience’. With no need to drive the car, passengers will instead by able to sit back and enjoy the journey assisted by an in-built AI known as the Bentley Personal Assistant which ‘helps the car’s occupants enhance and curate their Grand Tour experiences’.

As you would expect from Bentley, the passenger experience isn’t limited to cutting-edge AI tech. The inside is also sumptuously appointed with materials such as 5,000-year-old Copper Infused Riverwood, 100% organic leather-like material from wine making, British farmed wool carpets and embroidered cotton interior surfaces.

On the outside you’ll find a sleek and muscular design ethos which explores the brand’s future design direction, incorporating company’s DNA so that it is instantly recognisable as a Bentley. The EXP 100 GT incorporates the famous R-Type Continental haunch at the rear, round headlights that overlap the grille in a nod to the famous Bentley Blower and a long graceful body which is redolent of the golden age of motoring of the 1920s and 30s.

As well as harkening back to the past, the EXP 100 GT also reaches out to the future with regards to its construction. Made from lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre, the EXP 100 GT features a zero emissions powertrain with a range of 700km, adaptable biometric seating, an advanced air purification system, next generation traction drive and much more.

Performance wise, Bentley tout that the EXP 100 GT is capable of achieving 0-60mph in less than 2.5 seconds, thanks to four independent motors at each wheel. It also features advanced charging technology – which can provide 80 per cent of capacity in only 15 minutes.

Commenting on the launch of the EXP 100 GT concept, Adrian Hallmark, Bentley Chairman and CEO, said:

“Today, on our Centenary, we demonstrate our vision of the future of our Marque, with the Bentley EXP 100 GT – a modern and definitive Grand Tourer designed to demonstrate that the future of luxury mobility is as inspirational and aspirational as the last 100 years.”

“Bentley has, and will continue to enhance and enrich every single journey and the lives of every single person who travels in or has the honour to be a part of creating our extraordinary products.”

Stefan Sielaff, Bentley’s Director of Design added: “The Bentley Exp 100 GT represents the kind of cars we want to make in the future. Like those iconic Bentleys of the past, this car connects with its passengers’ emotions and helps them experience and safeguard the memories of the really extraordinary journeys they take.”

In addition to the EXP 100 GT Bentley Motors is planning a year-long series of special activities to celebrate the company’s evolution over the past 100 years and the ‘exciting future of innovation ahead’.
