Crewe-based Bentley Motors is renowned for building cars which are the pinnacle of both luxury, and high-performance, and their all-new Flying Spur which was revealed to the public this week is no exception.

The Flying Spur is perhaps one of Bentley’s most well-known models of recent years achieving excellent sales and reviews from the automotive press. With this, the third-generation of the luxury grand tourer, Bentley has completely the car from the ground-up. This is no mere ‘facelift’.

When considering this new generation of the Flying Spur, the first thing that grabs your attention is the stunning 207mph top speed figure. Yes, that’s right. A luxury sports saloon capable of over two hundred miles per hour!

That outrageous top speed is possible due to an ‘enhanced’ version of Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W 12 which is mated to a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission. Bentley reckon this new powerplant is good for 626 bhp as well as 664 lb.ft of torque.

Bentley insist that the new Flying Spur isn’t just focused on performance however. Inside, the company promises unparalleled levels of comfort and luxury. The ride promises to be silky smooth too. The new Flying Spur comes equipped with electronic all-wheel steering (the first time this tech has been featured on a Bentley), coupled with active all-wheel drive and Bentley dynamic ride.

The all-wheel steering is certainly the most fascinating aspect of the new Flying Spur. Why? Well, during low-speed manoeuvres, the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This has the effect of shortening the wheelbase, reducing the turning circle, increasing agility and making parking way easier. During high-speed manoeuvres, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, increasing stability and making overtaking and lane-change ‘more assured’ to use Bentley’s parlance.
The interior of the new Flying Spur is sumptuously appointed as one would expect from Bentley.

In other words, we reckon chauffeurs across the world will be fighting to drive the new Flying Spur.

But what about the passenger experience?

We’ll let Bentley ‘furnish you’ with their own description of the interior…

‘The interior of the all-new Flying Spur showcases Bentley’s expertise in creating a modern cabin of unrivalled luxury and innovation. Stylish and unique, it features new, supremely comfortable seats in 15 hide colours, with Bentley’s ‘Wing’ theme across the lower console and fascia. Sweeping horizontal veneer flows across the dashboard and into the doors, emphasising the spacious width of the cabin. An elegant, floating centre console houses a customisable 12.3-inch HD touchscreen and new Bentley ‘sculptural’ centre vents to the front and rear, housing stowage as well as inductive ‘wireless’ charging and two USB sockets for mobile phones.’
According to Bentley the new Flying Spur showcases their 'modern sculptural design language through elegant yet muscular proportions'.

That’s only a sample of the features contained within the Flying Spur, but even from that small sample, it’s clear that Bentley have gone ‘all-out’ to establish the Flying Spur at the top end of the upper-luxury category of the automotive industry.

Want to get your hands on possibly the fastest luxury saloon out there? Orders begin later this year, with deliveries starting in early 2020.

As a true sports-car enthusiast, who have rallied in France, casually driven Citroen-SM and Facel-Vega HK500 and a few Ferraris and Aston Martin DB5, and owned E-type and XJS Jaguars, I can tell that: We are more interested in 0-60 times from a stop-light, to beat Ford-F150 trucks, than 200 MPH which none of us would try. ie. Come down to earth, if it is sporty, give us a NARDI Wood-steering wheel. OK with VDO-gages. Please NOTE: we do NOT care for MPG and Carbon-Footprint. We just enjoy driving, and when it is SAFE, several MPH *ABOVE* the sissy-speed-limits. Zoommm..
