As a solution to the need for social distancing in parallel with the ongoing need for resources, the firm is looking to create smaller teams working across different shifts. This will allow the business to continue operating and contributing to Australia’s energy industry.

They are seeking workers for areas including machinery and product operators, truck and ancillary equipment drivers, excavator operators, diesel mechanics, boilermakers and trade assistants.

There are also additional roles for electricians, cleaners and warehouse workers.

These opportunities are being made available across BHP’s iron ore, coal and copper operations in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.

The company have also stated that the number of jobs available may be increased in time, and that they hope to turn some of them into permanent roles at the end of the six-month contract.

“As part of BHP’s social distancing measures we are introducing more small teams with critical skills to work dynamically across different shifts,” said Edgar Basto, Acting Minerals Australia President and BHP.

“The government has said that the resources industry is vital in Australia’s response to the global pandemic. We are stepping up and providing jobs and contracts. Our suppliers, large and small, play a critical role in supporting our operations.

“It is a tough time for our communities and the economy. We must look out for each other as we manage through this together.”
