If you can look at Ducati’s new prototype Streetfighter V4 and not feel at least a tinge of excitement, then you may very well be dead inside. Set for its first public outing at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, the ‘Race to the Clouds’ will be an opportunity for Ducati to truly put its radical new model through its paces.

The Streetfighter V4 derives directly from the high-performance Panigale V4 stripped of its fairings and fitted with high and wide handlebars- meaning that it’ll be ultimately ‘chuckable’ and will likely not be shy of the odd wheelie or two.

To stop things getting too out-of-hand however, the Streetfighter V4 will feature aerodynamic profiles specially designed to keep the 214 bhp engined beast planted to the road.

As far as technical information goes, that’s about though. Ducati are keeping tight-lipped about the rest of the bike, although the prototype version we’ve seen does feature an awesome ‘pixelated’ livery’. Unlike the liveries on other prototypes however, this one has been designed not to hide the bikes’ lines, but to extenuate them and deliberately revealing how the final bike will look.

What we do know for sure though, is that the bike will be available in Ducati dealerships from mid-2020 onwards.

Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, is confident that the Streetfighter V4 will be well-received by the motorbike riding public, saying:

“The Streetfighter V4 will be one of the stars of the Ducati World Premiere 2020. Streetfighter V4 is the Panigale for road riding; so, there was no better stage than the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for what will be the highest performance Streetfighter ever put into production.”

Ducati have chosen Carlin Dunne, who won the 2018 edition of the Pikes Peak race, to ride the prototype in this years’ edition. What better way to launch a new bike than to win the world’s most-famous hill climb event? We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that Ducati’s new Streetfighter V4 emerges victorious!

I am a fast driver in my Corvette, still I see some of these Kamikaze drivers zooming by at maybe 130 MPH, regularly on our interstates. I regularly read Road & Track, etc. with particular attention to 0-60 MPH acceleration figures, AND 60-0 STOPPING DISTANCES. Corvette does under 120 feet with my expensive tires. WHY we never READ about HOW QUICKLY can these Kamikaze pilots stop? On the same subject, a dark humor, from my Doctor (MD) wife: To buy these bikes, one should be forced to register as "organ-donor" as these guys are fine young MEN, loaded with testosterone, but their bodies are so difficult to scrape OFF the TARMAC.
