Tuesday was a major day for Eni’s Egypt team, with two announcements made from the region including a new oil discovery in the Western Desert and a shallow water gas discovery in the Nile Delta.

South West Meleiha Concession
Eni announced a discovery of new oil resources following the successful drilling of the SWM-A-6X well is the South West Meleiha Concession, located in the Western Desert, 130km North of the Siwa Oasis.
The new well is located near existing production facilities, where Eni have been operating for the last year and so far produced up to 12,000 bopd.
The well was drilled in the Faghur basin to a total depth of 15,800 feet and hit 130 feet of net oil pay in Paleozoic sandstones of the Dessouky Formation. The well is already on stream and connected to the existing production network, with a daily production of 5,000 bopd.
Bashrush
Eni operate a prospect in the North El Hammad concession in the Nile Delta, 11km from the Egyptian coast, called Bashrush. bp and Total are partnered with Eni in the prospect.
A well drilled in the prospect encountered 102 metres net gas pay in high quality sandstones of the Abu Madi formation. A production test successfully saw flow rates of up to 32 million standard cubic feet of gas per day though was limited by surface testing facilities. The well deliverability is estimated at up to 100 MMscf/d along with up to 800 barrels of condensate per day.
The partners will continue screening the development options of the Bashrush, with the aim of fast tracking production through synergies with the area’s existing infrastructures.
