Spanish utility company Iberdrola SA have announced plans to construct Europe’s largest solar farm at a cost of €300 million.

The planned farm, named Francisco Pizarro - after a 15th century conquistador - will generate 590 megawatts of energy from a 13 hectare site falling within the areas of Torrecillas de la Tiesa and Aldeacentenera - part of the Western region of Extremadura.

It will use 1.7 million solar panels to feed energy into the grid through a line that is currently being used by the Almaraz nuclear plant. The company claim the park will meet the annual power needs of 375,000 people in the area and will prevent the emission of 245,000 tons of CO2 each year.

The company have begun working with the Ecological Transition ministry to approve the construction, which is subject to mandatory public hearings to examine the impact on the environment and landowners.

Following approval, construction is expected to last until 2022 and will employ up to 1,000 people.

The project is one of eight solar projects by Iberdrola that are currently under construction or awaiting government approval, totaling more than 2,000 MW of capacity.

The company’s investment plan targets an output of 3,000 MW of solar output by 2022.

In a statement, Iberdrola said:

“These activities are part of the company’s strategy to strengthen clean energy generation in Spain by installing an additional 10,000 MW and creating 20,000 jobs until 2030.

“These projects form part of the global investments that Iberdrola will make between 2018 and 2022, totalling 34 billion euros.”

13 hectare site!!!! for a measly 600 MW. Two or Three GE Gas Turbines, OK, 10 RR Trent-60 would give you that, located on just a few acres. Employ up to 1,000 people??? 90% of it illegal-African-immigrants, to wipe clean (with Windex) the solar panels after weekly dust-storms and pigeon-poops !!!! But this is what EU and Madame Merkel + Macron want, and Spanish guys have to obey.
