Exciting Changes in the Drilling and Geoscience Department

Fircoft Drilling and Geoscience DepartmentJosie Glorioso talks about the exciting changes for contractors in the Drilling & Geoscience Department.

I joined the department in December 2013 having worked with Fircroft for the past four years. I’ve always worked on the contactor side of the business and have worked my way up to being a Senior Recruitment Consultant. When I heard about the new department that Michael Ormesher was creating, I was keen to get involved.

An exciting opportunity
Michael mentioned that whilst they were only concentrating on the requirement for permanent candidates, they would be interested in seeing how it could be expanded out into contractor recruiting as well. Michael always approaches opportunities with huge amounts of energy, so the idea of working with him on this new venture certainly compelled me to work within the team. I was also drawn by the idea of introducing a whole new area to the team – something which I hadn’t been able to do before. Drilling is a hugely competitive area so I knew that was an element of risk; however, this area of the industry is growing rapidly so it was an opportunity I was keen to be involved in.

Learning something new every day

The drilling industry is unusual in that it’s very niche but home to a huge range of roles. After working in this area for the last 10 months, there are still roles coming up that I haven’t heard of – I really do learn something new every day. We can recruit anyone from Drilling Fluids Specialists to Senior Drilling Engineers. Since I joined the team, we’ve concentrated on creating a high quality pool of candidates and nurturing relationships with clients and candidates, regardless of whether a role is currently available. We’ve been establishing our credibility by ensuring that the channels of communication are always open and this has definitely been reflected in our growing network.

Why we’re different
I’ve worked to ensure that the contractors we work with know that we do things differently. We are proactive, and as a result are constantly aware of where our contractors are up to in their contracts so we can start working on their behalf at the best possible point. This means connecting clients with ideal candidates who might not be available for a few months, but gives contractors peace of mind as they can feel confident in knowing where their next position is going to be. We’re not in the business of quick fixes so, by being proactive in our approach, we ensure that our contractors feel well supported and that they’re going into the roles that suit them.

Finally, as a team, we stay in close contact with our various international offices to ensure that we’re the first to know about new opportunities that are coming up, which is far more efficient for all involved. These international offices have access to all the best local talent and in return we can introduce them to a variety of international candidates.
Has it worked?

Yes, our approach is definitely starting to pay off. We have made numerous placements in the Drilling & Geoscience Department since February and we are looking forward to seeing our network grow and strengthen. I’m also pleased that we’ve just had approval to increase the team by another two consultants; I’m eager to see my team go from strength to strength and continue to develop over the coming months.
