ExxonMobil awards FPSO contract to SBM Offshore

SBM Offshore have announced that they have been awarded the contracts to perform front end engineering and design (FEED) by ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Ltd (EEPGL) for a third floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in Guyana.

Named Prosperity, the FPSO will have a capacity of 220,000 barrels of oil per day with associated gas treatment capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.

It’s intended for use in the Payara development project in the Stabroek block, where it will be spread moored in water depth of 1,900 metres and will store around 2 million barrels of crude oil.

SBM will use a design that largely replicates the Liza Unity FPSO, which is also being constructed for ExxonMobil to deploy in Guyana. It’s based on their Fast4Ward program that uses a standard modular concept, incorporating a newbuild multipurpose hull with standardised topside modules. The concept produces an FPSO much faster than traditional construction methods.

“The successful team work with our client ExxonMobil on the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity FPSOs provided a solid foundation for this award. This project will be adding further traction to SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward program as its design is incorporating our multipurpose hull and a number of standardized modules,” said SBM Offshore’s CEO Bruno Chabas.

The contract must go through necessary government approvals and project sanction, but the award will initiate a limited release of funds to begin FEED activities and secure a Fast4Ward hull.

SBM Offshore will construct, install and then lease and operate the FPSO for up to two years, after which ownership and operation will transfer to EEPGL.
