The slow death of diesel vehicles seems unstoppable, with a new report from the National Franchised Dealer Association revealing that UK consumers are now more likely to opt for hybrid rather than diesel when they buy their next car.
The survey reveals a remarkable reversal of fortunes for diesel, which up until 2015 has enjoyed about equal popularity with gasoline powered cars.
From being a niche concern only a few years ago, hybrid vehicles are rapidly becoming a mainstream option for passenger vehicles. A development that has perhaps been spurred by the ongoing diesel emission scandals, and talk of widespread bans of diesel vehicles across the UK and Europe.

The report surveyed 1000 people, of which 490 were male and 510 were female. 13 percent of respondents said that they planned to buy a hybrid for their next car, with just 12 percent planning to buy a diesel. Another three percent of respondents said they would consider buying a fully battery electric vehicle.

The results of the survey show a remarkable reversal of fortunes for diesel, which up until 2015 had enjoyed about equal popularity with gasoline powered cars. Diesel has now dropped to just 32 percent of vehicle sales in the UK, whilst alternative fuel vehicles have climbed from effectively zero to over five percent.
