Well 25/7-9 S, located off the coast of Norway, 12km west of Ringhorne and 210km northwest of Stavanger, will be drilled in a water depth of 127 metres.

The Liev Eiriksson semi-submersible rig has been commissioned to begin drilling.

"The purpose of the exploration well is to detect remobilized sand from the Hermod formation injected into the overlying Hordaland group," the company said in a statement.

“Total duration, including technical sidelines and core drilling, as well as two geological sidelines is estimated at 70 days. The well is planned to be drilled down to 1985 meters below the drill floor.”

A safety consent has already been given by the Norwegian safety watchdog for the Leiv Eiriksson rig for exploration drilling. It will be the second well to be drilled in Production license 917, which was awarded in March 2018.

The program is operated by ConocoPhillips who own a 40% interest. Lundin Norway, Suncor Energy and Vår Energi each hold a 20% ownership.
