Perth rail contract awarded to CIMIC joint venture

As Australia’s infrastructure boom shows no sign of slowing down, a joint venture consisting of CIMIC subsidiary CPB Contractors and Downer has been awarded work on the new Metronet rail system in Perth.

As part of the NEWest Alliance, the companies will work on:

  • The Yanchep Rail Extension – a 14.5km extension for the Joondalup Line, with new stations to be built at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep.

  • The Thornlie-Cockburn Link – filling a 14.5km gap in Perth’s eastern rail corridor, the link will connect the Mandurah and Armadale lines, with two new stations at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road, and upgrades at Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations.

  • It is anticipated that the work on the projects will create upwards of 3,000 jobs.

Commenting on the contract award, Michael Wright, Group Chief Executive of CIMIC Group, said:

“CIMIC Group continues to make a strong contribution to major projects across Australia through our diverse skills and wide geographic reach. Our construction company CPB Contractors has a long track record in WA in both infrastructure and resources and will work hard to leverage this experience on the Metronet project. As Australia’s leading provider of rail infrastructure, we’re committed to working closely with the WA Government and local communities to safely deliver this key component of Perth’s public transport system.”

Work on these sections of the Perth Metronet project will commence later this year and is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
