North Lincolnshire Council has given the green light to EP UK Investments for the construction of a £300 million energy from waste power station.

The new plant will be built next to the existing South Humber Bank power station near Stallingborough, with construction anticipated to begin later this year.

It’s estimated that the project will create 600 new construction jobs.

The facility will generate 50MW per year from 620,000 tonnes of domestic waste, producing electricity for 500,000 homes.

James Crankshaw, EPUKI’s head of engineering said: “The project is not dependent on securing a power purchase agreement or other form of secured income such as a contract for difference as other EFW projects have required and, as such, EPUKI expects to progress to the construction phase soon after planning is approved.

“The Energy Centre will provide much needed new power generation and energy recovery facilities as well as creating permanent local jobs.”
