Petrobras, Brazil’s national oil and gas company, have announced a record monthly oil production for the Buzios deepwater field in July.

The Buzios field is thought to be the largest deepwater oil field in the world. Located around 230km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, it has been under production by Petrobras since 2015. Currently four floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels are in operation in the field: P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77.

According to the company, the FPSOs together reached a new monthly production record of 615,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 765,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).

They also broke the daily output record for the field at 674,000 bpd and 844,000 boed.

This is good news for Petrobras’s future plans which include the deployment of a fifth FPSO, to be named Almirante Barroso, which is currently under construction by Japanese shipbuilder Modec. The FPSO is due to begin production in the second half of 2022 on a 21 year charter.

Petrobras also recently launched a tender for construction of three more FPSOs for the Buzios field.

A few curious comments, 1. Who made this unusual square L7 body? 2. We see (4) gas turbines, are they GE-LM2500 each? or LM6000? 3. Gen-sets or compressor drivers? 4. Life-Boats look puny as horizontal? 5. Reason for top-heavy (vertigo?) flare boom?
