Aramco’s participation in the show is part of the company’s efforts to improve the efficiency of energy use in the transport sector by improving the environmental performance of internal combustion engines.

Whilst electric vehicles are very much seen as the future of transportation, Saudi Aramco is betting on the internal combustion engine sticking around for many decades to come.

“As the internal combustion engine will continue to power global transport for decades to come, we believe that investing in improving engine technology is essential for any substantial reduction of the transport sector’s environmental footprint”, said Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter, Saudi Aramco’s Chief Technology Officer. “We believe that simultaneous development of engines and fuels will unlock tremendous potential for improving engine efficiency, and we look forward to showcasing some of the promising innovations that our teams are developing”.

The technologies showcase by Aramco at the Geneva Motor Show included Gasoline Compression Ignition, Opposed-Piston, and Turbulent Jet Ignition. The company also showcased its On-board Carbon Capture technology.

Expect to see more innovative engine technology from Saudi Aramco as the company continues to invest in its global transport research teams which are located in a network of centres in Dhahran, Paris, Detroit and Beijing. The teams are presently working on a number of technologies including advanced internal combustion engine concepts, after-treatment solutions and hybrid powertrain systems.
