SBM offshore has confirmed a contract award for construction, installation and operation for up to two years of the Liza Unity FPSO, for the next phase of Guyana’s Liza project.

The contract was awarded by ExxonMobil’s affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL) who hold a 45%  interest in the block.

The field is located approximately 190km northeast of Georgetown. The FPSO will be stationed directly over the field, where it will offload crude directly onto tankers.

The Liza Unity design is based on SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward program - which uses a standardised topside construction on a multi-purpose hull, which is said to speed delivery of the vessels by up to 12 months while improving quality, productivity and safety.

The FPSO will be designed to produce 220,000 barrels of oil per day with associated gas treatment capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.

It will be spread moored in water depth of about 1,600 metres and will be able to store around 2 million barrels of crude oil.

The deal follows completion of front-end engineering studies, receipt of requisite government approvals and the final investment decision on the project by ExxonMobil and block co-venturers.

CEO of SBM Offshore, Bruno Chabas, commented:

“We are proud that ExxonMobil awarded SBM Offshore the contracts for the Liza Unity FPSO. The company is confident that this project will demonstrate the value that our Fast4Ward program brings to our clients. We look forward to continuing the cooperation with our client ExxonMobil on this second important project in Guyana.”

In addition to EEPGL’s 45% interest in the block, Hess Guyana Exploration hold a 30% interest and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited hold 25%.
