Undoubtedly there are numerous contenders for the title ‘The Greatest Engineer’ but one of the favourites for the title has to be Leonardo da Vinci, the 15th century ‘Renaissance Man’ who made major contributions to invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics and, of course, engineering.
Whether you agree that da Vinci was the greatest engineer of not, you can find out more about the life and works of this remarkable man at a new exhibition, Leonardo da Vinci: The Mechanics of Genius which opens today at London’s Science Museum.
“It’s your chance to investigate both the facts and the misconceptions that surround this great genius of the Renaissance: was he the period’s only designer of machines? Did all of his designs get fully constructed?”
You can find out the answers to these questions and many others at the exhibition
. But in the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts about the world’s greatest engineers. Was da Vinci one of the best?
