As we settle into the New Year it’s only natural that some of you may well be looking for a new role. Here at Fircroft’s Marketing Department our Christmas film binge had us thinking; what would be the real life jobs of some of our favourite film characters? How would they fit into society and what would their career paths consist of? We’ve put together a list of 6 famous film characters and what kind of careers they could feasibly undertake in the real world.

Arthur Dent (Hitchhiker’s Guide)
Intergalactic Satirical Travel blogger –

An unwilling but popular travel influencer if you will. Arthur travels the galaxy, exploring various planets and sampling the finest tea in the Universe. His readers love his ranting work. None of these readers are from Earth of course as that’s been completely obliterated. His article entitled ‘The Vogons do indeed have the third worst poetry in the Universe’ has received well over a billion views around the Universe.

Other possible job titles:

  • Cosmological Bear Grylls.
  • Earth's accidental intergalactic diplomat.

Darth Vader (Star Wars)
Senior Project Manager

All project managers have a dark side, particularly construction project managers. The Construction of the Death Star was no easy feat. You can see from the latest Rogue One instalment of the franchise that it took a lot of management and ruthlessness in order for it to be completed. Who better to drive the project than Darth Vader himself? Possibly one of the most intimidating Senior Project Managers of all time.

Other possible job titles:

  • CEO of the Empire.
  • Personal Assistant to the Emperor.
  • Military Commander.

R2D2 (Star Wars)
A.I. Personal Assistant

It’s only a matter of time before our operating systems are run off AI in some form. R2D2 is the perfect personal assistant for anyone with a fast paced lifestyle. The little droid possesses an impressive set of skills, from engineer to messenger. Like any personal assistant he’s reliable and loyal. Admittedly you may face some communication issues to begin with but the one beep, two beep system will eventually make sense to you in time.

Other possible job titles:

  • Portable Home Entertainment System.
  • Portable Car Mechanic.

Jaws (James Bond villain)
Fabrication Engineer

Jaws' post-James Bond career path may not seem immediately obvious, but there's no doubt he has a particularly unique set of skills. Strong and powerful he could indeed have a lucrative career in personal security. However, we like to imagine him spending his 9 to 5 as a fabrication engineer on a production line. Shearing, gnawing and moulding metal using his intimidating steel canines. They are the perfect tool to complement the metal fabrication process.

Other possible job titles:

  • HR Manager (makes sure that staff behave and follow the rules).
  • Personal Security Expert.
  • Crash Test Dummy.
  • Dentist.

E.T.
Telecommunications Expert

Phone not working? Noise on the line? Are you having trouble with your signal? Do you need to phone home? Then E.T is the perfect telecommunications expert to solve all of your communication troubles. This would very much be a hands-on service as the little extra-terrestrial only has the ability to fix such issues in person, plus he’s a little limited in the vocabulary department so a dial-in service just wouldn’t work in this instance. If you look through his CV, you can see he already has experience working at BT back in 1999.

Other possible job titles:

  • Radiation Treatment Specialist.
  • Bicycle Customisation and Enhancement Technician.
  • Babysitter.

Gollum (Lord of the Rings)
Tour Guide

Tour guides can sometimes be a quirky species and we think Gollum fits perfectly into this mould. His navigation skills around Middle Earth are second to none, which means taking customers on a tour around a real life area of wilderness would be a piece of cake for him. However, it’s highly recommended that you remove all jewellery before your tour, particularly rings.

Other possible job titles:
  • Antiques Dealer.
  • Quiz Master.
So whilst we don’t currently have any job vacancies on other planets, we do have plenty across planet Earth! If you want to open up a world of opportunity and make your engineering career a stellar success, then register your CV with Fircroft today, and check out the hundreds of premium roles we have available right now in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Automotive, ICT, Mining & Minerals, Infrastructure & Construction and Power, Nuclear & Utilities.
