Tordis and Vigdis fields granted 34 year extension

Equinor have been granted approval by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to continue operations from their facilities on the Tordis and Vigdis fields for a total of 34 years beyond their originally-approved lifetime.

Under the new terms, Tordis will be in operation until 31st December 2036, while Vigdis will operate until 31st December 2040. Consents were initially due to expire in December 2019 and March 2024, respectively.

“Utilization of the facilities on Tordis and Vigdis beyond the original lifetime will contribute to increase value creation on the Norwegian shelf, and that’s good resource management,” said Arvid Østhus, NPD’s assistant director of development and operations in the Northern North Sea.

The Tordis field has been producing since 1994, and a subsea multiphase pump was installed in 2007 to increase recovery. Vigdis started producing in 1997 and a similar multiphase pump is planned for installation next year.

Both fields are located in production license 089 of the Tampen area of the North Sea and are operated by Equinor.
