Video of the week: Watch construction begin on the Liza Unity FPSO

2020 is set to be the ‘Year of the FPSO’. As offshore oil and gas projects plumb deeper and deeper depths, operators are increasingly opting to use FPSOs which offer a versatile and cost-effective way of harnessing natural gas resources. But what’s involved in actually constructing these giant marine vessels? Find out in EngineeringPro’s Video of the Week!

In the above video you can see the construction process begin on the Liza Unity FPSO which will be used on ExxonMobil’s Liza project offshore Guyana. Constructed in Chinese and Singapore fabrication yards for SBM Offshore, the Liza Unity FPSO will make use of a new build, multi-purpose hull combined with several standardized topsides modules.

To give you an idea of the scale and capacity of this incredible feat of engineering, SBM Offshore reckon the Liza Unity FPSO will be able to produce 200,000 barrels of oil per day, with an associated gas treatment capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.
