Why Insurance is Crucial
At a time when businesses are increasingly under pressure, some of our candidates question the need to buy insurance – adding to their already mounting costs. But there are a range of reasons why getting the right cover in place is crucial; it could even be what keeps you in business.
Three key reasons to get covered
We’re increasingly seeing clients from many industries requiring candidates to have comprehensive insurance in place. Essentially, this is because they want to protect their businesses from any risks they may be exposed to while you’re on the job. That’s why for some time we have insisted that all of our recruitment candidates buy appropriate insurance before they can work through us.
Having business insurance in place also adds credibility and is a very important part of running your business responsibly. As a contractor, you have certain responsibilities. For example, wherever you are working, you have a duty to protect anyone who might be affected by your actions; if your actions led to something being damaged or someone getting injured, a claim could be made against you.
Finally, we ask our candidates to buy insurance because we want you to protect your businesses. For example, if you gave your client any incorrect advice that led to them losing money, they could bring a very costly claim against you. If you weren’t insured, a claim like that could easily be enough to put you out of business. Many assume they are automatically insured by the company they are working for but this isn’t always the case.
Arranging the right cover
What our clients ask for varies, but three of the key covers you are usually asked to have in place are
professional indemnity, public liability
, so we ask our candidates to have these as a minimum.
However, we’re aware that it can be hard for contractors to buy this sort of cover. That’s why we’ve teamed up with freelance insurance specialist Kingsbridge Professional Solutions (KPSol) to offer a business insurance package specially designed for contractors in the engineering, oil and gas, power and energy, mining and minerals and automotive industries. The package includes all of the key insurances you may need, so you only need one policy to cover your main risks and meet your contractual obligations.
We have chosen to work with KPSol based on their expertise, knowledge and because they’re genuine specialists in our sector. By really understanding your risks and contractual obligations, we feel they have created a comprehensive package that caters to your exact needs.
