The Role:
This person will be responsible for delivering all key software targets / objectives, as agreed on an annual basis with the Engineering Manager. The post holder will be required to work as part of a project team; leading the design, development, testing and documentation of software as required by the project objectives. This will cover both customer funded delivery projects and internally funded R&D projects.

Key responsibilities

* To take a lead in software development activities in system supply projects carried out within Characterization Division
* To ensure that all software activities are fully documented within the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with the company's QMS.
* To develop and optimise the software processes and procedures- bench-marking, where appropriate, with 'industry wide good practice' and external organisations
* To be responsible for the quality and accuracy of all software work undertaken
* To ensure that all activities fully meet the requirements of the company's Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SMS & EMS).

Our Client is one of the UK's leading suppliers of instrumentation for a diverse range of applications in the nuclear industry.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* BSc or MSc in Computer Science and/or Physics or equivalent.
* Proven expertise in software programming (especially C++ software programming), gained from a minimum of 2 to 3 years experience in writing, modifying and testing Win32 programs.
* C# and Python experience beneficial
* Proven Experience in using ISO 9001 for a Software quality Management System
* Experience with CE Platforms would be an advantage.
* Extensive experience in the use and development of software for the control of instrumentation and/or high technology plant equipment, database design, data communications, and GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces).
* Experience of firmware development for microcontrollers in C and/or assembly language would be an advantage.
* Good Inter-personal and leadership skills, particularly effective written communication skills.
* Organisational skills (including good housekeeping, accurate record keeping, and the ability to prioritise jobs).
