The Role:
The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for delivering our internal manufacturing service. In fulfilling this role he/she undertakes or complies with the following:
* Management of Production Engineering and Planning.
* Management of Internal Manufacturing incorporating Machine Shop, Welding and Mechanical & Electrical Assembly where applicable.
* Line Management & Employee Development.
* Environmental and H&S.

General Manufacturing
* Financial oversight of production including annual budgets, cost control, profitability analysis, etc.
* Review documents (bids, design briefs etc.) and attend meetings (bid gate reviews, project kick-offs, design reviews etc.) to observe, contribute and provide feedback.
* Provide expert advice on Design for Manufacture.
* Develop relationships with group customers to understand their requirements and increase manufacturing sales.
* Responsible for house-keeping and condition of manufacturing areas, liaising with Facilities Engineer.
* Close liaison with the Manufacturing Manager (External) to ensure maximum utilisation of internal manufacturing capacity
* Other site or client specific activities as applicable.

Management of Production Engineering and Planning
* Responsible for providing an effective and efficient production planning service
* Promote efficient interfaces between Production Engineering, Production Planning and all internal manufacturing.
* Review manufacturing quotations and supporting tenders produced by the Production Engineering Team including; best method of manufacture, routings and their timely delivery
* Ensure manufacturing issues are resolved efficiently and effectively.
* Liaising with project teams as required

Management of Internal Manufacturing incorporating Rig Halls, Machine Shop, Welding and Mechanical & Electrical Assembly
* Responsible for providing an effective and efficient production service.
* Oversee technical support to Machine Shop, Welding and Mechanical & Electrical Assembly.
* Ensure the Mechanical & Electrical Assembly Teams are able to support internal testing and on-site testing / installation activities where required.
* Be responsible for the on-going maintenance of the manufacturing equipment.
* Be responsible for the packing & dispatch of manufactured equipment.

Line Management & Employee Development
* Dealing with daily staff matters within the team including attendance, leave and sickness.
* Deliver internal training (e.g. tool-box-talks and on the job training)
* Develop a supportive, encouraging and learning environment.
* Identify training needs, developing, communicating and supporting training.
* Assist in delivering company communications
* Assisting the Operations Manager in pay reviews, performance management, disciplinary actions and grievances
* Staff recruitment and development
* Conducting staff performance appraisals
* Management of apprentice training programmes

The Company:
Our client has been established for over 20 years locally and is focused on delivering design solutions to the nuclear industry, specialising in the design of mechanical handling plant and equipment, the design and installation of plant control systems and the provision of support to plant safety reviews.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* HND / Higher Apprenticeship in a related discipline
* Extensive knowledge and experience in precision machining (Malton specific).
* Has previously been accountable for management of an engineering factory or similar operation in a highly regulated industry.
* Financial / budgetary experience.
* Experience of leading continual improvement and change methodologies.
* Good knowledge of quality management systems, particularly ISO9001.
* Good knowledge of EH&S processes including ISO 14001 and 18001.
* Excellent organisational, time management and decision making skills.
* Excellent people skills, especially in supporting and motivating staff and in developing the abilities of others.
* Commercially and delivery-focused.
* High level written and oral communication skills.
