The Role:
The Projects Team Manager has overall responsibility for the line management of all project management personnel*, procurement personnel and commercial personnel within the Project Office (collectively referred to as Projects personnel below) at the site location including performance management, training and development.
The Projects Team Manager also has responsibility for achieving favourable project outcomes for the projects under the control of the site location in respect of time, cost, EHS and quality and client satisfaction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Line management
* Line management responsibility for all Projects personnel at the site location.
* Performance management for all Projects personnel using tools provided (e.g. appraisals, DSPs and PIPs).
* Training and development of Projects personnel.
* Recruitment of Projects personnel and supporting the recruitment of other Projects personnel.
* Provide support and mentoring to Projects personnel including graduates as required.
* Tendering
* Working with bid teams to scope projects and determine requirements, including exclusions and assumptions.
* Providing cost and delivery estimates and quotations, including margin and cash flow analysis.
* Contributions to tender preparation.
* Preparation of project schedules.
* Evaluating project risks.
* Pre-tender negotiations with clients and sub-contractors on pricing and contractual details.
Project initiation
* Setting up the Project team and ensuring all roles and responsibilities are defined
* Ensure the availability of SQEP personnel to deliver the contract.
* Working with the project teams to plan resource requirements, project milestones and deliverables.
* Finalising project budgets and generating a cost baseline for the project.
* Preparing key planning documents such as Project Execution Plans, Risk Register, Delivery Schedule etc.
* Ensuring resourced and costed schedules of work (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6) are generated
* Setting up project files and templates.
* Holding internal and external opening-up meetings.
* Risk management and mitigation plans.
Project Implementation
* Overall management, tracking and controlling of the project to ensure favourable outcomes for projects in respect of time, cost, EHS&Q and client satisfaction.
* Manage the overall project schedule including resource allocation and critical path analysis.
* Manage the overall cost for the project with the target of improving GM where possible
* Manage change control throughout the project including Early Warning Notices and Compensation
* Overall responsibility for the EHS&Q of the project including Safety Plans and ensuring subcontractors conform to all EHS&Q requirements in liaison with the EHS&Q department.
* Ensuring compliance with company Quality Policy and procedures.
* Flow-down of quality requirements to external suppliers.
* Preparation of Quality Plans.
* Ensuring Lifetime Quality Records are complete and archived.
* Supporting the auditing function within to ensure compliance to the projects procedures.
* Involvement in continuous improvement activities within the business, particularly closing out any LFE actions associated with project management.
Commercial and Procurement
Ensuring that the Commercial and Procurement functions within the Project team effectively perform the following tasks:
* Manage the commercial aspects of the projects
* Develop the partnering/supplier strategy and contracts for sub-contractors.
* Negotiate commercial terms with the Client
* Resolve contractual and commercial issues.
* Ensure that the appropriate T&Cs are flowed down to the supply chain
* Manage the procurement functions for the project teams
* Manage and deliver key procurement projects within budgeted costs and on time
* Setting, agreeing and monitoring Supplier deliverables and measuring performance against project milestones and contractual agreements.
* Manage the supply chain and ensure that all of the Project's EHS&Q requirements are met by the supply chain.
Key Skills and Competencies
* Experience of managing large value projects of significant complexity and risk, preferably within the UK nuclear or other highly regulated industry.
* Track record of project delivery success.
* Experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Proven experience in contract change management.
* Risk management experience on complex projects.
* Commercially focused and financially literate.
* Experience of managing project teams
* Excellent management skills including leadership, decision making, planning, time management and problem solving.
* Team building, motivational and mentoring skills.

Our client has been established for over 20 years locally and is focused on delivering design solutions to the nuclear industry, specialising in the design of mechanical handling plant and equipment, the design and installation of plant control systems and the provision of support to plant safety reviews.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Full Membership of APM (MAPM) or PRINCE2 qualified.
* Tertiary engineering/technical qualification such as HNC, degree or equivalent experience.
* UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
* Nuclear Experience
