The Role:
The Role
Our client seeks to appoint a lawyer on a flexible 6 month contract in their London office of their growing Business Unit. The BU is focused on the basin-opening development of an offshore project.
The successful candidate will report to the BU's Legal Manager and enjoy being part of a collegiate team of lawyers dedicated to the BU as well as having the opportunity to work with other lawyers within our client's London office.
The position will support the BU on business activities relating to assets in the project, which will include:
* drafting and negotiation of key development contracts
* ensuring compliance with joint venture arrangements and any necessary amendments to dovetail the same with the development
* arrangements with the project's local Government, such as licensing, local facilities, taxation and associated matters
Given the multi-faceted nature of these business activities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to deepen and broaden their experience of development operations, on a world scale project.

 Key Accountabilities
* Gain an in-depth, practical understanding of:
* Company's approach to joint venture, supply chain and other contracting arrangements,
* the documentation governing the company's assets,
* the oil and gas licensing and regulatory regime,
in each case in respect of the local business
* Support and advise internal stakeholders on the drafting and negotiation of contractual arrangements in respect of company's supply chain operations
* Provide timely, practical and commercially orientated advice to internal stakeholders on legal arrangements governing company's interests in the location, including ports and supply bases
* Manage external legal resources and help build productive relationships with BU suppliers.
* Work with negotiation teams and support the resolution of disputes to optimise the company's position

 Major Challenges
* Provide legal support to complex projects, under time pressure
* Produce a high quality of legal documentation
* Ensure contracts achieve an appropriate allocation of risk and reward between the company and the contractors

 Financial accountability / activity indicators
* Support the monitoring of external legal costs against department budget
* Reporting and management relationships

Reporting to:
* BU Legal Manager

Indirect relationships:
* BU client base, company's executive management and Legal and C&P teams outside of the BU
* Supply chain contractors and financiers
* External legal counsel
* JV partners
* Local Government

 Qualifications
* Bachelors degree level education
* Hold a current legal practising certificate from a relevant jurisdiction
* Membership of professional and industry bodies

 Candidate Profile
Skills / experience:
* The role will require a good understanding of oil and gas contracting
* Candidates should have relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, gained at an operator, services company or international law firm
* Exposure to JV, development and supply chain activities would be highly regarded
* This is a mid-level role. There is no minimum or maximum PQE requirement.
* The successful candidate should be comfortable operating independently, with oversight and support from colleagues in the legal team

* Comfortable being hands on and fully involved in company's business in the location.
