The Role:
Manage and co-ordinate the lifting operations and act as an appointed person, ensuring all legal obligations under LOLER and PUWER are met.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ)

* The Appointed Person is fully responsible for familiarising themselves with the site HSEQ documentation, systems and procedures relevant to their area(s) of responsibility and for ensuring that they are understood and applied to everyone within their respective area/s of responsibility.
* Shall ensure that only safe working practices are applied by persons within their area(s) of responsibility, with care for the environment and due consideration for quality requirements.
* Shall ensure, so far as is reasonable practicable, that all persons who come within their area(s) of responsibility receive adequate information, instruction or supervision necessary for them to prevent or avoid risks to their health and safety.
* Shall ensure that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times throughout their area(s) of control.
* Shall ensure that work equipment, premises and protective clothing and equipment provided within their area(s) of control are used as required and maintained in an efficient state and in good working order and repair.
* Carry out HSEQ inspections as required.
* Be involved in any HSEQ investigations to establish root cause and implement corrective, preventive actions.
* Shall ensure that HSEQ problems which cannot be resolved immediately are raised quickly with their Line Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Accountable for Safety and implementing Work Safe / Home Safe.
* Provide technical guidance and support to the Rigging teams to ensure all lifting operations are implemented safely and efficiently and in accordance with LOLER and BS7121 Parts 1, 2,11 and any other applicable project specific lifting standards
* The custodian for the management of change process for lift plans, ensuring all changes to lift plans are formally documented, evaluated and where applicable endorsed by the appropriate technical authority(s). All changes to lift plan must be endorsed by the Appointed Person
* Develop and produce Risk Assessments, Safe systems of work, method statements and lift plans for all lift operations and planned maintenance activities.
* Review and endorse all lift plans
* Ensure all lifting operations is safe to use, in date for test and complies with PUWER
* Ensure all lifting operations are correctly supervised by a competent person in accordance with LOLER
* Ensure that the technical integrity of all lifting equipment used on the site/installation is continually assured thorough the performance of regular lifting equipment inspections are carried out in accordance with the requirements of LOLER and where applicable, the Assets Written Scheme of Examination (WSE)
* Ensure work in carried out in a safe, satisfactory and timely manner and conduct regular audits.
* Supervising a team

* Ability to work with others or on occasion alone in a safe manner.
* Working in conjunction with other members of the Facilities and Production Departments and Subcontractors as required.
* To be flexible in working to allow the business to successfully complete and compete for work
* There may be a requirement to work overtime or to attend outside of normal shift hours There is no guarantee of overtime working.
* To behave professionally with clients, contractors and colleagues

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* A Valid Competent Person Qualification issued by one of the following award bodies:
* CPCS A61 Appointed Person (Blue Card)
* LOLER Competent Person (Certificate of Competence OPITO
* ECITB Appointed Person - Appointed Person Moving Loads (Certificate of Training)
* TAP01 Planning a Rigging Operation (Certificate of Achievement)
* In addition to the above qualifications:
 Lifting Equipment Inspection
 Rigging Loft Management
 Managing Working at Height
 Use of Fall Arrest Suspension and rescue Equipment
 Working at Height/Harness Equipment User
 Banksman/Slinging Stage 3 (OPITO)
* Extensive knowledge and understanding of the UK Regulations (LOLER, PUWER, HSWA) and with International standards and codes associated with lifting and hoisting operations and lifting equipment and the ability to disseminate the requirements of these to the Supervision and rigging team members
* Extensive experience and proven competence in the planning, risk assessment and safe implemen
