The Role:
The Submarine Cable Engineer supports the Gas Export Pipeline Package Lead with the delivery and day to day management of the fibre optic telecommunication system contract from shore to the FPSO; including tender development, evaluation and negotiations, package management during the Execute phase and interfacing with all internal and external stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities
* Ensure specifications and datasheets are code compliant and fit for purpose
* Ensure all fibre optic telecommunication system delivery requirements are adequately specified within the contract
* Delivery of the fibre optic telecommunication system scope including oversight of system design, procurement, installation engineering, structure design/fabrication/testing, loadout, installation and commissioning. The role shall be supported by suitably experience subject matter experts in fibre optic system design and network design.
* Manage fibre optic telecommunication system subject matter expert service agreements

Key Responsibilities
* Lead tender negotiations with the fibre optic telecommunication system service provider.
* Interface with the FPSO and IT team to ensure seamless integration of the fibre optic telecommunication system into the FPSO local equipment and telecommunications equipment room, including installation of critical equipment in the shipyard.
* Day to day management of the fibre optic telecommunication system contract to ensure the scope of work is delivered to the required quality, safely, on schedule and to budget.
* Review installation analysis, procedures and structure designs to ensure compliance with Company requirements
* Promote and lead project wide safety initiatives and implementation of the project HES plans at worksites
* Meet project expectations regarding Quality of engineering documents, procured materials, fabricated structures and installation
* Assist with staffing and management of the fibre optic telecommunication system sites with Company representation
* Support auditing and vessel assurance processes for all assets associated with the work
* Operate offshore as a Client Representative/field engineer during the offshore installation phase.
* Manage offshore client team

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Engineering or higher, from an accredited university.
* In depth knowledge (minimum of 15 years' experience) in subsea construction, contract management and interfacing.
* Experience in manufacture and handling of submarine cables or flexible products
* Experience in installation and trenching / ploughing of submarine cables or flexible products
* Applicant shall be experienced in working in multi-disciplined offshore teams.
* Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute proactively in team environments.
* Analytical/technical aptitude with a practical approach to problem solving.
* Ability to work effectively and positively while dealing with uncertainty and conflicting priorities in an evolving landscape.
* Flexibility to work offshore and onsite as required to support the works.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
* Experience in the design and installation and contract management of submarine fibre optic telecommunication systems
* Knowledge of electrical safety with respect to working with powered communication systems
* Experience working in Australian oil & gas industry
* Has worked for both installation contractors and operators
* Offshore survival training and HUET
* Experience in the management of subsea contracts
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
