The Role:
Operations and tasks performed by a chief operator are self-directed and in accordance with instructions from the supervisor. The chief operator is to supervise and participate in field operations and shop work including, but not limited to: preparation, rig up, operation, maintenance, rig down and returning to base. They work closely with the supervisors to ensure each job operates with a competent crew and reliable equipment.
1. Familiar with well test design and process at highly professional level
2. Help prepare HAZOP documentation, P&ID, and equipment.
3. Participate in pre-job meeting with crew.
4. Evaluate individual crew members and report to management, as required.
5. Mentor and supervise crew.
6. Be aware of the crew's competence levels and delegate tasks accordingly.
7. Ensure equipment SOPs, JSAs, and MSDS are complete and available to crew.
8. Ensure equipment certificates are available, and collect certifications as required.
9. Oversee and perform pre-deployment checks for equipment, tools and parts.
10. Perform all tasks in a safe professional manner and follow SOPs.
11. Perform and actively participate in all required safety meetings, JSAs and walk around/shift handover.
12. Complete and verify operations forms and checklists.
13. Supervise and perform pressure tests, function tests, as per relevant SOP and equipment design specifications. Retain test documentation.
14. Plan preventative maintenance, supervise, operate, repair and maintain surface test equipment within safe parameters.
15. Monitor equipment controls and instrumentation, record test data and verify data quality for engineer/client's use.
16. Supervise and perform liquid sampling and analysing and verify quality.
17. Supervise and perform troubleshooting of equipment and process.
18. Report any abnormalities of equipment to supervisor.
19. Generate a list and notify supervisor of needed spare parts from suppliers.
20. Initiate a MOC if required.
21. Report all incidents, accidents/near misses and unsafe working environments to field supervisor.
22. Recommend changes in test methods or equipment, and document suggestions on daily report.
23. Supervise and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
24. Perform operations as per OCP/SOPs and ensure crew is aware of correct safe operations.
25. Collect field service quality form and submit with job report.
26. Monitor sensors and ensure they are reading within parameters (or may be performed by DAQ Technician/Specialist if available).
27. Communicate with DAQ Technician to confirm project data collection procedure.
28. Verify and validate manual data against DAQ.
29. Responsible for good housekeeping and cleanliness on location and in the workshop.
30. Maintain clear and professional communications with all crewmembers and company representatives.
31. Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level.
