The Role:
*Role Synopsis

The Lead Development Engineer (LDE) is a critical role that is responsible for the delivery and verification of all engineering deliverables for a portfolio of Trinidad projects from pre-appraise to the end of Concept Development inclusive of hand over to the Optimize Define/Execute Engineering project team.

The current plan is to annually progress 3-4 opportunities through Pre-appraise and 2-3 projects in Concept Development, as such, the LDE will be managing engineering on multiple projects at the same time. The work will involve leveraging specialist industry contractors' front-end capability, and also will be required to performance manage engineering deliverables to the required quality, on schedule and within budget. The LDE will report directly to the Trinidad Cat B Engineering Manager and dotted line to the Cat B Project Development Manager.

The LDE will determine the cross-discipline activity set required to complete Opportunity Screening, Development Options and Concept Selection and will utilize discipline Engineers within the Trinidad Cat B Engineering team for delivery of pre-Appraise and Concept Development work. As such, the LDE role will require a thorough understanding of current conditions, baseline assessment of existing facilities, fluids characterization and production profiles.


Key Accountabilities:

- Delivers engineering for the project to assure that the principle objectives of Safe Design and Quality Build are realized
- Provide engineering leadership for appraisal engineering activities to effectively deliver against the Trinidad Cat B Projects Appraisal Annual Operating Plan.
- Provide engineering support to projects in Preparation for Concept Development, recognizing the fact that projects can be initiated and progressed or "killed" in short timeframes, work flexibly to ensure each project has an appropriate engineering plan for its phase and relative priority.
- Drives the discussions and decisions regarding Engineering for Value, balancing business drivers with design alternatives
- Ensures Fircroft's requirements for Design Hazard Management, Process Safety, and Inherently Safer Design are incorporated into the facilities design
- Ensures that the appropriate Fircroft Cat B Common Process is rigorously applied within the project, delivering best practical Front-End Loading (FEL) at sanction and top quartile project delivery post sanction (cost, schedule, first year operability)
- Create a preliminary Basis of Limitation (BoL) to understand current condition and a baseline assessment of the existing asset.
- Outline the Basis of Design
- Develops and actively manages any required technology adoption plan
- Ensure key engineering risks, particularly high consequence risks, are identified, ranked and have an appropriate risk management plan. These plans should be assessed not only against ETP conformance, but also against Engineering for Value guidelines.
- Evaluate requests for deviations or exemptions to the established specifications and standards
-Facilitate hand-over between Concept Select and Optimize engineering contractors to ensure a smooth transition
- Ensures all activities are carried out in accordance with BP's Code of Conduct

Essential Education

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or the equivalent Degree

Essential Experience and Job Requirements
- Minimum of 10-15 years' industry work experience.
- Must have brownfield project experience with strong design engineering background
- Must have extensive experience with the front end of projects, including developing the business case and evaluating alternatives to provide the best business value
- Must have experience with managing a portfolio of work, including prioritizing the diverse activities
- Must have extensive experience delivering HSSE performance.
- Must have extensive experience with application of a staged-gate project management process
- Must have extensive experience implementing Owner/Operator engineering design standards
- Must have strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
- Must have strong planning and organizing ability
- Must have good understanding of business drivers and the ability to align design philosophies
- Must have strong estimating skills and practical understanding of costs (capital, operating, life cycle)
- Must have experience of supervising work in a Contractor's Design Office

Desirable Criteria: Chartered Engineer status or equivalent recommended.
