The Company

Fircroft are acting as a partner to this global engineering and manufacturing business in recruiting for a Head of Manufacturing to lead and drive the success and operation of its manufacturing facility.

With an already highly capable and innovative manufacturing operation, our client now want to continue the development of this facility to ensure they operate as a "world-class" manufacturing environment.

This is a business that offer truly bespoke "one-of-a-kind" projects for clients in high profile industries, meaning the importance placed on the manufacturing and production process cannot be understated. Each project will offer new challenges, meaning no day is the same and will challenge the engineering ability of everyone involved from initial design through to installation, with manufacturing being a pivotal piece of that journey.

With a variety of different manufacturing processes under one roof including machining, assembly, fabrication, test and commissioning, it is vital that every division operates to the maximum to ensure the successful delivery of projects to customers.

The Role

As Head of Manufacturing you will be responsible for a team of approximately 70 people in size across the entire manufacturing operation. You will have responsibility for every aspect from managing and leading teams and departments, through to the implementation and management of transformation projects, lean initiatives and business improvements.

This a very hands-on role where from time to time you will be required to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, but you will also be directly responsible for the strategic and operational capability of the facility for many years to come, and as such requires someone with a proven track-record of driving improvements and changes within a highly bespoke manufacturing business.

This will include the following:

  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well being of staff and visitors
  • Implement changes where necessary to strategy, processes, policies and organisation to allow successful delivery of all projects to time, budget and quality standards.
  • Develop and manage production schedule and the manufacturing budget to ensure projects are delivered to budget, time and quality.
  • Manage and optimise productivity levels in manufacturing, monitoring at short intervals and making timely interventions wherever necessary.
  • Provide leadership and coach, mentor and develop direct reports, manage and develop manufacturing talent and ensure that a succession plan is in place.
  • Proactively work with engineering, and other departments to incorporate best practices into the bespoke manufacturing environment.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a critical piece in the future success of the organisation, therefore a proven track-record of delivering improvements in cost, on-time and quality delivery is key, alongside the following:

  • Proven track-record of success within a Manufacturing, Operational or Production leadership based position.
  • Knowledge of high value bespoke manufacturing projects, with experience of implementing improvements within such an environment.
  • Strong engineering background, with a hands-on approach to manufacturing and production with the willingness to be involved in all areas throughout the facility.
  • Knowledge and experience within fabrication, machining and assembly.
Experienced in the implementation of 5S, Lean and TQM.

In return, you will receive a fantastic salary, with a package that includes a Car, Bonus, Pension, BUPA and more.

If you are interested in the role, and feel you have the skills and experience described then please apply with a copy of your CV or send directly !
