The Role:
Job Description:
The Rock Shop Technician position involves responsibilities pertaining to receipt and tracking of material used for testing, as well as splitting, handling, and distribution of that material. Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, are required. Training specific to client laboratory processes will be provided; however, knowledge pertaining to safe work practices and prior laboratory experience are preferred.

Sample Receipt / Intake:
New sample check-in / check-out and record tracking for all samples received at Briarpark using existing Geo-Technical Center (GTC) processes. This includes updating of the internal Inventory Management System (GTCIMS) when new material is received.

Sample Splitting / Handling:
Manage day to day rock shop operations and ensure all safety and reliability processes are in place and explicitly followed.
* Ensure all rock shop equipment is operational. This includes troubleshooting and equipment maintenance, as required.
* Perform sample splitting, cutting, trimming, and distribution for analysis.
* Track samples using internal database application - GTC inventory management system (GTCIMS).
* Operate and maintain Soxhlet extraction equipment for cleaning of geological material prior to analysis.
* Perform sample preparation and analysis with X-ray Diffraction lab.
* Splitting of the samples, making sure each sample is in the proper envelops to be delivered to the different laboratories.
* Sample preparation in the lab itself
* Drying, heating, crushing of the sample
* Ensuring that the laboratory is clean and maintained daily

Required Qualifications:
* At least 2-4 years of overall Lab Tech experience
* Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, are required
* Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills
* High School Diploma or GED
* Practical Laboratory experience, focusing on the safety aspect

Preferred Qualifications:
* Lab tech experience in oil and gas will be nice
* Associates or Bachelors- Geology, science, biology, chemistry is preferred

* Reason for opening- employee moved on to a different business unit
* 9 month contract to direct
* Will be working with 12 other people- geologists, engineers, lab techs, chemists
