The Role:


Virtual Powertrain is a new initiative sitting within the Performance, Efficiency and Driveability CAE function, responsible for providing CAE capability to understand how the PED attributes interact with other attributes such as emissions and NVH.


This function will enable critical attribute balancing decisions to be made earlier in programmes thereby improving the overall customer attribute experience. We are looking for a lead engineer in this discipline to develop CAE model and process integration methods across multiple packages to enable cross-attribute virtual assessments.

- Liaise with attribute leads to identify current issues and future concerns with regard to attribute performance and the cross-attribute interactions relating to these issues


- Liasise with relevant CAE teams to understand test cases related to attribute performance requirements and capability to model the test cases in virtual environment


- Working together with contributing CAE teams, develop model integration and/or CAE process developments to enable virtual assessment of attribute balance around the identified test cases


- Develop visualisation methods to enable simple objective understanding of vehicle attribute balance


- Roll-out newly developed methods to programme analysts in robust, standardised process formats to ensure high quality delivery of programme attribute balance assessments


- Ensure detailed model correlation against physical test data is undertaken for new models and processes, developing recommendations for future model improvements to increase robustness


- Support programme attribute leads in appropriate architecture and programme meetings


- Assist new and less experienced team members in their technical understanding and development relating to CAE activities

3 KEY SKILLS REQUIRED:

1) Experience using multiple industry standard 1D CAE toolsets such as Matlab/Simulink, Dymola, AMESim, GT-Suite, etc. for vehicle or vehicle system modelling
2)Experience in model integration and/or co-simulation of multiple industry standard CAE toolsets
3)Proven capability to identify and implement CAE tool and process improvements


Experience Required:

- Proven analytical capability, including a methodical and highly disciplined approach to data management
- Able to interpret and present simulation output and derive appropriate conclusions and recommendations
- Able to identify and respond to the strengths and limitations of computer-based modelling and simulation
- A good working knowledge of engine, transmission and driveline architectures and operating characteristics
- The ability to develop working relationships and deliver through a cross-functional team
- The ability to effectively plan and manage workload priorities and delivery
- The ability to provide technical guidance and development to less experienced colleagues

Experience Preferred:

- Vehicle attribute delivery experience
- Vehicle or powertrain/drivetrain test and/or calibration experience
- Educated to degree level in Automotive or Mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline

Education Required:

- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present complex technical subjects to senior colleagues
- The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers and suppliers and negotiate and agree interactions
- The ability to challenge existing thinking in a positive way
- Candidates should be self-motivated, organised and passionate about data-driven engineering
- An effective team player, actively develops and supports team members

Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.
