Cooling Engineer

The Role:


Supporting new vehicle programmes and current vehicle updates the primary purpose of the group is to design, validate and release for production fuel and cooling systems and components. Working for the Cooling & Heat Exchange System team the prospective candidate will be responsible for leading the design of base engine components and systems.

Responsibilities and duties will include (but are not limited to):

* Responsible for technical compliance of programme Quality, Cost, Weight, Function & Timing targets.
* Develop and maintain component timing for project design and validation maturity by gateway.
* Responsible for Engineering Specification, Statement of Requirements and Engineering drawings.
* Manage delivery of components on time for virtual and physical builds from concept to mass production.
* Lead technical issue resolution providing clear status to management.

Key Skills Required:

1)Advanced skills required in the design and delivery of engineering systems on high performance diesel and/or petrol engines, ideally combined with casting design experience. Working knowledge of quality design methods/tools including CAD and problem solving, ideally experienced in applying Design for Six Sigma methodology.
2) Experience in the creation of detailed mechanical design specifications and design verification methods. Creation/approval of detailed drawings including GD&T, interpretation and application of engineering standards, compilation of detailed dimensional tolerance stackups and checking for approval of such.
3) Able to work efficiently within a team and to communicate efficiently with external teams including component suppliers and external consultancies.

Additional:

* Self-motivated and adaptable to changing demands.
* Experience of Base engine component/system commodity delivery or other Powertrain commodity.
* Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering components or systems from concept to production.
* Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of Quality Tool Sets.
* Knowledge of prototype engine build methods, high volume manufacturing methods and design for service requirements.
* Knowledge of analytical test methods.
* Experience in the design of major aluminium cast components and the machining thereof or general engine component manufacturing processes is desirable.
* Prefer relevant engineering degree, minimum HNC/D required
* Experienced users of Catia V5/V6 (a proficiency test assessment will be performed) and UGS Team centre/Anovia knowledge is ideal but not essential.
* Candidates with the right level of engine design experience and with casting design experience will also be considered.

This role will require someone who desires a challenge, can innovate challenging design solutions and support the development of advanced base engine designs.
