The Role:
Technical Support Engineer (Embedded Control systems/Instrumentation) - The position is for someone to work within a team to support technical infrastructure in Vehicle and component Test Rigs/cells. Day-to-day job will include planning and maintaining service and repair of embedded control systems utilising simulation technology using Matlab/Simulink and vehicle network diagnostics and Instrumentation, electrics to support run the test rigs.

Responsibilities: Will provide first line maintenance support, fault diagnosis to root cause analysis on critical plant and equipment Develop original or innovative approaches to engineering design, cost reduction, and problem solving. Will work closely with service contractors/suppliers to ensure system's safety and minimum downtime with pro-active approach to plan maintenance activities. Will work closely with HIL Integration team to ensure rig capability for future technologies and provide training to team members to create repair/maintenance plan. Help test engineers to understand and resolve technical issues relating to existing systems and write and update work procedures/instruction and share knowledge across the team.

3 KEY SKILLS
Skilled in Embedded control systems (Working experience in Matlab/Simulink and knowledge of Vehicle network diagnostics LIN/CAN/Flexray tools eg Vector)
Skilled in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering (Working experience in selection/application and knowledge of the working principles of various instruments used in automotive testing such as: Thermocouple, Pressure Transducers, Strain Gauges , Accelerometers, flow meters, displacement sensors.)
Previous experience in in Maintenance/ Support team. (Organise and prioritise work assignments to complete assignments/tasks on time. Regularly liaison with test team and suppliers on component specification and fit for purpose Good communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills

Experience Required: "Degree level qualification in an Electronics Engineering field. The candidate will have 5+ years' experience in maintenance environment involving embedded control systems, Instrumentation & Control , hold formal qualifications and be conversant with current electric/test requirements on control systems. "

Experience Preferred: Project Management skills Basic CAN bus simulation knowledge. Basic knowledge of EtherCAT and other communication technologies PLC programming experience Work experience in Automotive/Food/Power/MOD Industry. Basic knowledge of testing and data acquisition tools

Additional Information : Based at Gaydon (occasional travel to Whitley required)
