Specialist Engineer- Powertrain Cooling Systems

The Role:
Position Description:
SME Engineer - PTSE Cooling systems - Technical team The Cooling Systems team is based at Whitley and is part of the Power Train Systems Engineering group within Powertrain Engineering reporting to the Powertrain cooling technical specialist. The primary purpose of this group is to provide the technical backbone for all Cooling Systems. It provides initial system and component strategy and ongoing support throughout the development cycle. Ensuring robust deployment of technology in support of vehicle plans. This role will be responsible for all technical aspects of hoses and degas tanks and be the expert for hoses and degas tanks.

Skills Required:
3 KEY SKILLS REQUIRED:
1)Knowledge of rubber and plastic component design, manufacture and testing
2)Knowledge of cooling systems, ideally in automotive applications
3)Self motivated , driven and positive attitude.

Experience Required:
>Engineering degree or equivalent experience
>Sound understanding of the Design and Development Process
>Good engineering knowledge to include design for assembly, fit and function and a good understanding of GD&T
>Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of Project Management and a strong disciplined approach to engineering delivery
>Able to demonstrate ability to plan and deliver components or systems from concept to production
>Able to demonstrate experience of managing suppliers.

Experience Preferred:
>Automotive Powertrain experience
>Knowledge of electrified powertrains
>CAE & CFD experience or awareness of
>Knowledge of PTSE Component/System design including rubber and plastics would be beneficial
>Product Development experience and/or awareness
>Experience and working knowledge of FMEA processes
>Good working knowledge of client IT systems- WERS, eFDVS, AIMS, RMDV2
>Current Driving Licence.

Additional Information :
Role responsibilities to include:
- Liaise with vehicle programme teams to agree targets (quality, function, cost, weight) and define strategy
- lead the quality planning activities including component FMEA and Design Rules and Standards
- visit supplier sites as required
- Develop and enhance Design Rules , standards and processes for area of expertise
- Support benchmarking, design reviews and on-going product quality improvements
- Support System Strategy and develop commodity strategy with purchase
- Work with Research team, Advance engineering teams, Vehicle Packaging and suppliers to develop feasible design assumptions for future products.
