The Role:

The Mechanical Engineer will work within our client's LNG plant on Curtis Island where you will provide mechanical engineering support to the Mechanical Asset Integrity Team. Your focus will be on static equipment to ensure all equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Brownfields Projects support on behalf of Mechanical Engineering Team
  • Discipline Engineering for small projects through full project lifecycle
  • Complete Owner's Engineering Acceptance of Technical Deliverables for larger projects, including:
    - Review and input into Basis of Design
    - Consulting with Shell Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Technical Authorities (TAs)
    - Represent Owner's Engineering Team at design reviews and HAZOPS
    - Review design is fit for purpose with regard to technical aspects
    - Ensure 3rd Party Design Vendor's assumptions and exclusions are appropriate
    - Owner's Engineering Acceptance of drawings, calculations and the design in general
    - Mechanical Engineering focal point for QA and NDE
    - Assist with development of complex/exploratory NDE scopes.
    - Inspector qualifications management
    - Molecular Sieve inspection scoping
  • Mechanical Engineering focal point for Service Water, Potable Water, Demineralized Water and Effluent Treatment
  • Systems as well as Plant and Instrument Air Systems
  • Mechanical Engineering focal point for Management of Change (MOC) Engineering including managing the MOC dashboard for the Asset Integrity (MMI) Engineering Team
  • SCE Group (Barrier) owner for PC002 Heat Exchangers
  • Coordinate and support the work of the Turnaround Mechanical Engineer who is responsible for inspection scoping and planning of static mechanical turnaround scope
  • Mechanical piping and pressure vessel calculations including:
    - Flange bolt torques and gasket seating stresses
    - AS3788 Appendix N wall thinning
    - API579 Level 1 and level 2 Fitness for Service Assessments
  • Root Cause Analysis trouble shooting and investigation of equipment failures and selection of the required repairs and quality control tests to restore equipment integrity.
  • Support to inspection engineers and inspectors for interpretation of inspection findings to guarantee fit for service condition of the equipment.
  • Approve inspection workorders before they enter planning

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with Management of Change process including engineering input and review
  • Experience in supporting engineering reviews for Brownfields Projects through full life cycle of project
  • General maintenance & engineering of hydrocarbon facilities (LNG in particular), including
    - Valve selection and troubleshooting
    - RCA experience
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Australian and International industry standards relevant to integrity of piping, tanks and pressured equipment such as AS3788, ASME BPVC, API 650/653, ASME B31.3, AS1210, API579, AS4458, API510.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:

  • RPEQ preferred
  • Experience with Water Systems
  • Experience as SCE Group Owner (Major Hazard Barrier Owner)
