The Role:

The Turnaround Engineer will work within our client's LNG plant on Curtis Island where you will support future turnarounds and provide mechanical engineering support to the Turnaround Planning Team. Your focused will be on largely on developing inspection scopes and work packs for static equipment inspections as well as assisting with scoping supporting contracts.

The Turnaround Engineer is accountable to the Lead Integrity Engineer but must also liaise directly with the Turnaround Coordinator and acts as the focal point for the shutdown team on all engineering/technical matters. The representative is responsible for ensuring that correct communication routes are established and maintained with the relevant asset teams. The role provides engineering support to the shutdown teams for all shutdown work scopes.

Shutdown Planning:

  • Responsible for co-ordination and preparation of work packs for integrity and inspection related scopes in a timely manner that meets the AMS schedules.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the proposed work scope meets the asset requirements, including optimization where appropriate.
  • Work closely with the asset integrity team to develop/finalise detailed inspection scopes based on interpretation of previous inspection findings as well as defining appropriate hold points and/or quality control tests to ensure equipment integrity.
  • Ensure work pack structure is developed for shutdowns e.g. pre and post works are clearly identified in the scope descriptions and a logic plan for completing the task is included with the correct levels of detail incorporated and with hold points identified.
  • Responsible for monitoring work pack preparation progress as well as the progress of work pack reviews. And tracking progress against the work pack delivery schedule identified in AMS.
  • Responsible for ensuring all pre-shutdown work has been identified and that all pre works have been planned well in advance of the shutdown.
  • Responsible for ensuring all contingency work has been identified and where required that all contingency plan work packs have been developed well in advance of the shutdown.
  • Resolve engineering/technical obstacles and barriers to an effective shutdown.
  • Responsible for ensuring the work leaders, system owners and the shutdown team have fully reviewed the proposed scope of work. Provide where required for technically complex tasks, training / familiarity program for the execution teams that will be completing the task during the shutdown e.g. any trials that will help reduce shutdown risk
  • Actively participate in shutdown risk management activities, supporting the shutdown coordinator to deliver a fully mitigated plan.
  • Liaise with the shutdown coordinator during all phases of planning

Shutdown Execution:

  • Work scope completion surveillance and quality assurance interactions
  • Fit for Purpose assessments, mechanical calculations, trouble shooting, causal learning.
  • Investigate equipment failures and selection of the required repairs and quality control tests to restore equipment integrity.
  • Support to inspection engineers and inspectors for interpretation of inspection findings to guarantee fit for service condition of the equipment.
  • Tracking defect fitness for service assessments and vessel inspection work pack completions

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong focus on Safety
  • FFS and in service inspection experience
  • Experience with RBI strategy development and specifying Welding and NDT requirements
  • Knowledge of NDT methods
  • General maintenance & engineering of hydrocarbon facilities (LNG in particular)
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Australian and International industry standards relevant to integrity of piping and pressured equipment such as AS3788, ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, AS1210.
