The Role:
* The primary focus of this role will be to lead and deliver a round year programme of school engagement activities and cultivate productive relationships with schools across Cumbria to promote apprenticeships and our client. The activities will be focused on Years 10 through to 13 and will involve school talks at events such as assemblies, one to one careers events, information and guidance work, CV development and events and visits. While the engagement is focused on those choosing their post-school progression options, there will also be a smaller element of community awareness activities involving younger children.
* In order to be successful in the role, the individual will need to develop a robust knowledge of apprenticeships and be able to present in an engaging style to the target audience. The individual will be supported in developing this knowledge and will join a marketing department, which has a depth of conventional literature and digital marketing aids to utilise.
* The individual will be responsible for the cultivation, development and expansion of these relationships with the goal of maximising exposure in the target demographic school age population. This will require the individual to develop a professional rapport with teachers and school business leaders.
* The role will require out of hours work on a regular basis and the post holder will be expected to carry this out. Whilst engagement is a year round activity, there are peaks of engagement aligned with recruitment from September through March. At these times in particular, there will be a requirement for the individual to operate regularly outside normal work hours. Examples include attendance across Cumbria for 8:30 assembly and attendance at evening careers events up to 20:00.
* The role will operate within the marketing department and will report to the marketing manager.
* Over a 12 month period, it is likely there will be a 70/30 % split between school engagement and more general marketing activities for the post holder.


  • Writing, designing and production of corporate literature, including case studies, company templates, products brochures, etc. in both physical and digital mediums.
  • Utilising both traditional and digital marketing mediums to ensure that our organisation is effectively represented in all mediums to promote the brand and succeeds in raising sufficient learner and customer engagement across all areas of the operation.
  • Using digital marketing mediums effectively to ensure that our organisation remains at the forefront in these mediums and is making best use of these technologies to reach our target audience. Technologies will include, but not be limited to, the website, Facebook page, Twitter and Linked-In. Providing an active monitoring service and liaising with relevant staff to respond in a timely manner via these mediums. Comparing and analysing the use of these mediums and comparison with competitors.
  • Continual development of the website on a daily basis and ensuring that the content remains current and relevant.
  • Working with subject experts to develop commercial tender submissions
  • Playing an active role in marketing events - including event planning, organising suppliers and event team, supervising the event.
  • Sourcing and maintaining relevant stocks to support marketing activities such as event banner stands, literature and giveaways.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Marketing Manager.


  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - both written and verbal

    • Excellent customer facing skills and confidence engaging the public
  • A flexible approach to working, including outside normal business hours to fulfil the engagement role.

  • Good administrative and organisation skills and attention to detail
  • A proven ability to engage and present information.
  • Competence with business IT systems and has an enjoyment for this type of work. Use of Microsoft Office is essential, and some flair for literature design and the use of graphics would be a benefit.
  • Familiarity and an understanding of social networking products such as Facebook, Linked-In and Twitter. There will be a need to perform updates and uploads to the web site using a content management systems.
