The Role:
Reporting to:
Chief Technical Specialist, Type Approval
Required to make reports and presentations to Chief Engineer T&D and Project Managers.

Responsible for:
Senior Engineers, Engineers and Junior engineers as direct reports (as and when applicable, none at present). Will liaise with technician grades

Purpose of the role (function within the organisation):

- To plan, lead and participate in the Type Approval of current and future products, in particular powertrain and emission related activities.
- Reporting of such activities using both informal and formal reports including maintaining USA reporting requirements.
- To lead and support meetings and present relevant information.
- Assist project managers and engineers from other disciplines to ensure delivery of a certified product.
- Accuracy, data reporting and data management are critical.
- Manage CO2/GHG fleet average data base forecasting.

- Type Approval is a key role in ensuring a vehicle complies with market technical legislation and legal obligations.
- The experience is unique in being cross functional, highly technical, needing interrogation and understanding of complex written requirements and ensuring that released designs and calibrations can achieve the requirements.
- The role may on occasions require the ability to travel and represent the company.


- To possess a good working knowledge of automotive legislative requirements especially EU and USA powertrain and emission legislation and reporting.
- To plan, lead and co-ordinate test preparation for legislative procedures. To direct support from Engineers, technicians, instrumentation groups, etc.
- Ensure accuracy and quality of tests.
- To provide a lead role in the analysis of gathered data and preparation of reports. This includes interpretation of results and judgement on whether compliance has been achieved.
- To advise on the application of legislative test procedures to suit the requirements of clients Products.
- To liaise with Designers and Engineers in order to achieve engineering solutions to legislative compliance issues.
- To develop his/her skill set with experience and by exposure to external input (papers, reports, discussion with relevant legislative authorities and industry groups/peers, etc.).
- To liaise with global legislative authorities regarding technical and regulatory information related to vehicles and to be responsible for appropriate distribution of such information.
- To support project planning activities with a high level of technical input and resource planning skills and to assist in presenting such plans.
- To assist with cost control and manpower allocations as required within the TA group.
- Preparation and submission of reports to USA Govt. authorities and EU certification agencies. Management of CAFÉ credits/penalties.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- HNC, Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
- Significant experience in the field of emission global automotive Type Approval is required
- High level PC skills expected.
- Willingness to guide others.
- Ability to extract relevant information from complex regulations.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- Automotive Engineering Degree
- Knowledge of Federal (EPA, CARB, NHTSA) online submission and/or reporting processes will be an advantage.
