The Role:
Duration: 6 - 12 months (awaiting confirmation)
Location: Offshore GOM
Schedule: 2 weeks on vs 2 weeks off

Under the direction of the Safety and Emergency Response (ER) Manager, the Offshore Safety Specialist is the local subject matter expert who actively participates as a part of the Operations Production/Well Operations teams, supports construction projects, and drives a process safety culture in the field. This position requires close interaction with production/drilling facility personnel with the aim of having the best possible first hand understanding of the safety status of an offshore drilling/production facility. The Offshore Safety Specialist achieves this understanding through regular inspection of the workplace and close interaction with field personnel. Through cooperation and coordination with field supervision, the individual will bring increased awareness of safety programs and processes that will progress the safety culture in field operations. This is the key role accountable for advising Safety and ER Manager, and other senior management, on the implementation status of key safety programs in the field.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES /DUTIES:
* Responsible for performing Life Critical assessments and training. (e.g., work permitting, job planning, hot work, confined space awareness, management of change awareness, lockout/tag out, and gas detection awareness).
* Responsible to perform initial orientation of qualified vendors to ensure any bridging of safety management systems is communicated effectively.
* Coordinate and participate in HSE assurance audits providing expertise in employee safety and process safety
* Support supervision to ensure that a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is conducted effectively for all jobs and that they are properly documented.
* Provide health, safety and environmental expertise to offshore supervision and general personnel
* Provide instruction and delivery of safety concepts, practices and procedures to personnel
* Provide guidance to ensure that all company management system policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to
* Provide consultation on the regulatory requirements pertaining to the offshore work environment, (e.g. emergency response, incident investigation, evaluation of safe work processes and risk management)
* Provide emergency response expertise, when required
* Develop reports such as "Near Miss" and "Unsafe Condition."
* Participate in area/construction leadership and project team meetings
* Participate in review of jobs involving permitting hot work, confined space, crane lifts, fall protection or simultaneous operations.
* Participate in PHA and MOC process to help identify and eliminate potential safety hazards
* Utilize safety conversations with personnel to identify and eliminate potential hazards by engaging the workforce to identify conditions which could result in a serious accident.
* Utilize skills in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to lead/conduct incident/accident investigation and reporting.
* Fully understand the proper care and use of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure facility personnel are trained in the proper use of PPE
* Instruct offshore personnel on the use of company document management systems (i.e. IMS, EDAM, Online SDS, etc)

Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, HSE or other technical discipline from accredited university or equivalent experience in a professional safety role.
* Safety Certification preferred [Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar equivalent recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s)].
* Minimum 5 years safety experience in the oil and gas industry
* Experience working in offshore setting (not offshore projects)
* Demonstrated experience supporting operations and project groups.
* Working knowledge of HSEQ Management Systems and safety metrics.
* Working knowledge of BSEE/OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management Systems (PSM/SEMS), behavior based safety and industry best practices.
* Ability to travel and support assets within an assigned geographic region for a 14 day period.
* TWIC card and HUET training
