The Role:
The technical field support role supports the activity of the ABMs in selling a wide range oils, greases and coolants, (including automotive grades), across the UK, including Northern Ireland and Eire. The remit is a national one.
The job holder will provide a daily telephone/e-mail technical support service across the HDDO and Distributor Channels and across the wider lubricants business as necessary.
The job holder must be fully competent technically in the use and application of the Industrial and Automotive product range. The customers in contact with the job holder ranges from Distributor Office & Field Based Sales Teams, Stores Managers to Purchasing Managers and Maintenance Engineers to the Technical Directors of international groups, therefore the job holder must be able to answer technical questions comprehensively and confidently.
Additional requirements of the role are, to train internal and external customers and to represent the department externally, to undertake trials, oil sampling and analysis and to be familiar with current European legislation, regulations and safety and environment issues in relation to our business.

The job holder will be expected to keep themselves fully up to date with changes in lubricants legislation, specification and formulations and how it impacts our business.
Maintain "live" contact with the various Paris based industrial and Automotive technical and channel managers, at any given time, to ensure a regular and efficient flow of information in both directions.
Part of this role will be a requirement to contribute fully to the development of new products locally, which will have been signed off by the relevant Managers and to liaise with the Laboratory Manager in relation to this and sample analysis.


*Ensure high quality technical support through liaison with customer, ABM and other relevant departments (see earlier definition).
*Responsible in recommending company products and supporting technical advice for applications in the, Distributor and HDDO channels and across the lubricants business as required.
*Support and coach the ABMs to ensure a good basic level of understanding on technical issues.
*Recommend products, identify equivalents to competitor grades, rationalise grades to meet and optimise customer requirements and be accountable and liable for all recommendations.
*Prepare technical aspects of tenders, equivalent lists and surveys and represent the technical department in events such as presentations and exhibitions.
*Conduct technical lubricants surveys to identify applications and suitable lubricants products.
*Attend regular meeting with major high profile high volume or high margin accounts to technically assist, up date, rationalise and introduce new technologies where necessary. With the objective of fully supporting ABM's / SM in maintaining/gaining business and assist in strengthening customer relations.
*Ensure a monthly review meeting with the HDDO & Distributor SM is conducted in order to maintain a live activity plan.
*Liaise with the marketing department, laboratory, sales managers, Paris and other stake holders to optimise and harmonise product ranges, tender queries and business flows generally.
*Perform the role of UK TIG, Signalman and ANAC co-ordinator, able to present and outline the various benefits, supporting the process of gaining new accounts, extract customer data and support Paris in the installation. To facilitate this training will be provided through joint visits etc.
*The job holder must be able to act as a UK technical co-ordinator with the technical team in Paris.
*Visit customers or potential customers when required and set up project plans with the sales departments to manage and be accountable for surveys and trials.
*Look for opportunities to build & maintain technical strategic relationships within key accounts or prospects, identified in tandem with the ABM/ S.M, develop and assist sales in negotiations with same to grow UK business or gain new potential business and build brand awareness and technical expertise in line with the strategy.
*Ensure good time planning and an efficient split between field visits and working from home ( generally this is anticipated as two days WFH and three in the field, but this will vary).
*Act as technical coordinator for major tenders.
*To assist in identifying areas of opportunity where company products can be marketed at premium prices
*Ensure that the companies policies, standards, HSEQ are in place, maintain high standards and optimise, improve where necessary; emergency response for lubricants for contamination and e.g. Health issues swallowing of products etc, spillage and safety and environment. To assist and advise the emergency services e.g. Fire Brigade, Hospitals, Doctors, National Rivers Authorities on health hazards and pollution control, liaising with our HSEQ and other relevant personnel where necessary, or requested to do so.
*Undertake ad-hoc projects and other requirements as required

A global oil company is seeking to hire a Technical Field Engineer to provide on-going support to their customers in the automotive and industrial sectors.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Already experienced in the use and application of oils and greases. Able to give recommendations, understand detail.
It is expected the job holder will have a technical background with practical "hands on" experience, requiring good judgment, good project management, and good time management and organization skills.
Qualification required is a graduate degree in one of the following fields: Chemistry, Mechanical engineering and having a minimum of 5 years previous experience in the oil or associated OEM industry.
