The Role:
General Information
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Indigenous Relations Canada, this position is responsible for providing guidance for the implementation of TransCanada's Indigenous Relations (IR) Program, IR Policy, and IR Strategy to ensure effective engagement with Indigenous groups to support access to land, project development, and maintenance.

The IR Engagement Lead will be responsible for leading efforts to establish and maintain relationships with Indigenous groups and organizations and for tasks relating to external commercial considerations. The IR Engagement Lead will also will work with various internal stakeholder groups, such as Regulatory Law, Environment, Indigenous Law, and Land to ensure TransCanada meets regulatory requirements related to engagement.

* Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Indigenous Relations Program in a rapidly evolving legal, regulatory and social context to deliver sustainable and responsible business results, including timely and effective project support and access to land;
* Lead implementation of project engagement plans and assist in the development and refinement of project execution plans in alignment with the IR Policy and IR Strategy;
* Ensure the evidentiary record of engagement with Indigenous groups, representatives and members is maintained and accurate to support regulatory filings and ongoing relationship building;
* Establish relationships with Indigenous groups that facilitate the ongoing exchange of information and collaboration to support regulatory processes, capacity building, business engagement and community investment, throughout the asset lifecycle;
* Support internal stakeholders, such as environment, working with Indigenous communities to develop mitigation measures to support project development, as required;
* Identify, monitor, analyze and communicate emerging issues, risks and opportunities;
* Maintain an understanding of legislative, regulatory and legal case developments as they relate to emerging issues and trends that could have a material impact on our lines of business;
* Participate in industry and Indigenous forums, as required, to enhance the sharing of best practices and lessons learned, and is viewed as a subject matter expert;
* Contribute to the ongoing building of a high performing team of technical experts and professionals to provide timely, coordinated and comprehensive support to business client groups; and
* Other duties as required.

*In the performance of this role, travel of up to 50% will be required and as such the candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this effect.

*Successful completion of Security Clearance/Criminal Check may be required.

*Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

* Knowledge of the federal and provincial regulatory processes and consultation guidelines in Canada;
* Experience engaging with Indigenous groups and working with representatives and community members to resolve complex and often contentious issues;
* Proven ability to work with Indigenous groups to identify opportunities to support capacity building;
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong respectful relationships with a variety of groups, from the grassroots to senior levels, both internally and externally;
* Ability to be a team player and work independently to achieve project-driven deliverables in a continuously evolving context;
* Excellent problem solving abilities and the ability to find creative solutions to complex problems;
* Strong business acumen;
* Proven facilitation and influencing abilities;
* Superior communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to effect
