The Role:
Job Title: Environment Advisor - Governance and Waste Management

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Governance, Operations Services and Remediation, this role is responsible for providing service and support for waste management to the Business Units, and support for implementation of the Environment Program. The role is responsible for ensuring support for waste compliance reporting and project support on behalf of the Business Units, managing controls, tracking and reviewing emerging policy and regulatory requirements. This position will require extensive work with internal and external client groups outside of the department.

Responsibilities
* Review current waste management systems and provide advice.
* Receive regulatory notifications, government news feeds and emails as well as legal bulletins ad paid subscription services on regulatory and policy changes;
* Prepare government mandated waste and hazardous materials compliance reporting for all Canadian lines of business (Canadian Gas Operations, Energy Operations, and Liquids Operations);
* Ensure regulatory reporting is completed efficiently and on time;
* Provide quality assurance reviews on waste compliance where required;;
* Prepare Waste Profile Sheets;
* Support Environment staff on waste management requirements and procedures;
* Review changes to acts, regulations, codes of practice and emerging policy, assess impact to the company, manage controls to ensure compliance, validate the controls and act on continuous improvement
* Develop and maintain operational controls and training materials to support management of waste, hazardous materials; transportation of dangerous goods; spills and releases; PCBs and NORM;
* Update controls, policy, procedural and guidance documents to ensure compliance and improve processes
* Support implementation of Information Management and Management of Change processes for Environment;
* Collaboratively work with Environment Program Advisors to communicate changes;
* Support waste data collection for corporate reporting (i.e., Carbon Disclosure Project, Corporate Sustainability Report, Dow Jones Sustainability index, financial reporting);
* Conduct quality assurance reviews and technical input on all external and internal communication related to waste data;
* Leverage unique experience to solve problems or help meet particular challenges;
* Stay aware of industry trends for environment and ensuring the company is current with industry best management practices;

Qualifications and Education

Qualifications:
* Knowledge of environmental laws/regulations and practices regarding waste and hazardous materials in BC, AB, SK, MB, ON and QC and/or non-oilfield industries;
* Knowledge of key elements of Environmental Management Systems.
* Experience working with Canadian and Provincial regulatory agencies;
* Advanced analytical ability to gather and evaluate complex information obtained from a variety of sources.
* Excellent research skills
* Innovative ability to work and contribute in a team environment;
* Intermediate working knowledge of Excel;
* Strong problem solving and decision making skills to resolve complex and ambiguous issues;
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders from grass-roots to senior policy-makers

Education/Experience:
* University degree or equivalent
* six or more years of experience in waste management and hazardous materials management
* Knowledge and experience of environmental management systems and environmental compliance an asset
