The Role:
Position Description
This is an engineering position in the Pipeline Integrity Data Engineering group supporting the US Gas Business Unit. The position is focused on Pipeline Class & HCA compliance activities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Gather and analyze data in support of assessing, and scoping remedial action for the Class and High Consequence Area Programs
- Gather and analyze data in support of assessing and quantifying integrity threats in the context of the Class and High Consequence Area Programs
- Perform Engineering calculations to manage revisions in MAOP (Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure)
- Perform Engineering Studies to determine the continued safe operation of the pipeline
- Provide technical support to other Pipe Integrity Stakeholders as required
- Perform QA of survey vendors' deliverables that feed into the Class & HCA Program
Decision Making:
- Makes decisions using established guidelines, procedures and/or policies related to pipeline integrity programs
- Makes recommendations relating to general policy and technical issues using established guidelines, procedures or policies, within authorized limits
- Operates as part of a larger team, working to meet challenging objectives in demanding timeframes
Duties:
- Undertakes accountabilities related to the Class Program Planning
- Undertakes accountabilities related to defining the overall US Gas Pipeline Integrity Management Program
- Regularly and effectively communicates progress and setbacks to Program Lead
- Applies general engineering knowledge while managing deviations from standard methods
- Addresses impacts from other fields / areas of work on pipeline integrity projects
- Validate and analyze suggested approaches to medium complexity issues
- May seek guidance from more senior colleagues, as required, and may provide guidance to junior engineers or technicians
Qualifications/Competencies Required:
- Knowledge of 49CFR Part 192, and related industry standards is an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills are required for this position as typical work includes interaction with stakeholders including: Field Operations, Field Specialists, Planning, Project Management, Supply Chain, Communications, Information Technology and Gas Control as well as outside vendors, surveyors, third-party engineering, and installation contractors
- A valid driver's license is required
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of software applications is required
Education/Experience & Comments:
- This position requires a BS degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited University or College
- Previous experience in Pipeline Integrity, or a related field, and/or operation and construction of high pressure natural gas or liquid transmission pipelines and or related facilities (1-5 years of experience)
- Some (5-15%) overnight travel required
