The Role: As an Electric Motor/ Armature Rewinder Service Technician, you will join a dedicated and close-knit team responsible for the inspection, dismantle and assemble of motors.

About the role:

  • Dismantle and reassemble all sizes of rotating machines and sub-assemblies 1KW to 50MW
  • Match marking, digital photo's, written reporting / records completed
  • Low Voltage and High Voltage testing with various workshop instruments and diagnostic equipment
  • Stripping and taking detailed data from all types of machines
  • Producing detailed sketches, drawings and schematics of winding data
  • Washing, baking, cleaning, bead and sand blasting, and preparation of all types of machine stators, rotors, armatures, coils etc
  • Round wire and formed coil winding and manufacture
  • Cutting insulation to appropriate sizes eliminating as much waste as possible
  • Correct insulation material selection and sizing
  • Hand taping using various materials
  • Quality brazing, silver soldering and soft soldering
  • Varnishing with VPI, dip, spray and brush methods
  • Cleaning of components after varnishing
  • Provides complete and correct information on test sheets and job reports
  • High-level of housekeeping, requires no prompting and participates in the 5S or other improvement programs
  • Awareness of standards and procedures pertaining to OH&S, Environment and Quality issues and assist OH&S and Q&E Officers with compliance in these issues as requested

Essential Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Queensland Electrical Work License "Electrical Fitter & Electrical Mechanic"
  • Hold formal Qualifications or Education in Electrical Rotating Machines Rewinding, Overhaul and Repair
  • Hands on experience with Electric Motors Alternators (AC & DC)
  • Expertise with inspections, dismantle and reassemble of rotating machines and sub-assemblies
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong commitment to health and safety

Hands on experience with the following machines (or some of the following):

  • AC & DC Traction Motors
  • Synchronous Motors and Alternators
  • AC Induction Motors and Alternators 240 Volt to 1000 Volt (Round wire)
  • AC High Voltage Machines 3.3kV to 11kV (Stators, Rotors and Exciters)
  • DC Machines (Field Coils, Interpoles, Compensating Coils and Armatures)

  • Flexible to travel to various sites/ projects for install and commissioning
  • Flexible to work day and afternoon shifts on rotation, and work a reasonable amount of overtime as required by the volume of work in the workshop and the production schedules
  • Fast learner, with the drive to gain as much experience and knowledge from a highly experienced team
  • Strong commitment to continuous improvement with a drive and willingness to succeed
  • Quickly adapt and learn new techniques to effectively and confidently carry out tasks and projects unsupervised
  • Valuable team player who enjoys the challenge of juggling multiple tasks
  • Self-disciplined and will see tasks through to completion often within tight time frames
