The Role:
A construction manager (CM) is responsible for scheduling, planning, coordination and control of a construction project from its inception to the time it is completed. The CM is responsible for ensuring that all materials of construction, and methods of construction conform to Company, industry, and regulatory standards, specifications, and requirements. The CM is also responsible for ensuring that the construction project is concluded safely and successfully.

Key Accountabilities:
* Overseeing, planning, scheduling, directing and coordinating the construction project activities conducted by the construction and contractor resources (trades, supervisors, etc) on the site for the duration of the project, as defined by the Project manager and agreed by the Regional Project & Construction Management Engineer and the Plant Manager.
* Responsibility for scheduling project in logical steps and estimating the time required to complete the project and meet deadlines
* Reviewing project work scope weekly and in advance to support effective Permit To Work processing with the BP approved permit issuer. Conducts reviews of, and ensures accuracy and quality of contractor task analysis activities to ensure work plans are safe, efficient, effective, and that work is well coordinated with the Contractor, the Plant Operations Staff in the work area affected, and other contractor resources on the project (or in the area), the Construction Safety officer (CSO).
* Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems.
* Identifying the required Work Permits and Certificates during the task planning stage to complete the task
* Determines labor requirements and dispatches workers to various construction sites.
* Taking actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction site, including tracking all exceptions on standardized construction project daily and weekly progress reports
* Supports the PM in initial project creation. Assists is the development of initial design with regards to constructability and budgetary costs.
* Supports the PM in the assessment of the appropriate standards as applied to a particular project.
* Supports the PM in leading the project team to deliver project in accordance with relevant standards and BP Group requirements
* Supports the PM in setting and defining safety expectations for contractors to ensure they are aligned with CS-100 and site expectations
* Completes required training and competency plan as assigned by BP (Control of Work/Golden Rules)
* Site Lead in managing and project construction resources to deliver project goals (safety, quality, schedule, scope and cost)
* Supports development and monitors project safety plan (inclusive of work breakdown structure, PHSSER risk assessments, daily DJSA's, lifting plans etc.)
* Supports the regional construction safety committee with the other Central Engineering PMs
* Supports selection of contractors necessary for completion of the construction project activity.
* Ensures that the project scope is completed per the SOR/SOW, design plans, and associated contract change orders within a specified time.
* Validates that all construction materials conform to design per the engineering specification, BP specifications, and industry/ regulatory requirements
* Monitors and directs the progress on the construction site
* Studying job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
* Overseeing the delivery of materials, construction tools and equipment, and the demarcation of lay-down areas and the safe and reasonable ingress and egress of contractor resources to and from the site.
* Supplying a list to the PM of supplies and materials to complete construction projects.
* Ensuring that all safety precautions are adhered to by the construction workers.
* Inspecting and reviewing projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, and other regulations.
* Contributing to a L2TRA (Level 2 risk assessments)
* Management and oversight of construction quality control programs.
* Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
* Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out.
* Evaluate construction methods and determine cost-effectiveness of plans.
* Quickly (within 30 days), develop a working knowledge of all BP Lubricants Construction and Safety Standards.

Key Challenges:
* Manage multiple projects at once. Each in different stages.
* Work with Plant personnel to Integrate projects with Operations (scheduling, requirements, etc…)

Experience & Expertise (mandatory & desired):

* The applicant should have a minimum of 5 years actual field experience in project engineering, project management or construction management/oversight. 8 - 10 yrs is preferred.
* Bachelor or Associates degree in an engineering discipline or a degree/formal training in Construction Management or Project Management is preferred.

* Completion of OSHA 510 "OSHA Standards for Construction" course & OSHA 30 Construction Safety Card is required
* Must possess a working knowledge of computers and software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), including advanced Excel capabilities.
* Fluent in the English language (spoken and written).
* Has completed successful Industrial construction projects with values from $50k to $10m. Projects related to chemical operations or related industries are preferred.

To be considered for the role of Construction Manager, applicants must have:

* The willingness and ability to relocate to or commute on a daily basis to associated plant without company assistance.
* The willingness and ability to travel up to 5% of the time in order to fulfil the responsibilities of this position if needed.
* The willingness to work weekend/off-shift hours as required to complete construction tasks while accommodating the plant operations.

Legally Required Training and Accountabilities:

* Transportation Worker's Identification Card (TWIC) is required

Required Competencies:

* Construction Manager must exhibit exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills.
* Must be attentive to detail.
* Possess good communication skills.
* Good problem solving skills.
* Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule.
* Initiative and motivation to perform to high standards in a demanding environment.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the plant personnel, engineers, project managers and contractors.
* Ability to effectively facilitate meetings
