The Role:
ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Senior Operations Engineer delivers in country (Mozambique) oversight on all field activities including wellpad and road construction, drilling, well evaluation, coiled tubing, testing, work over and abandonment operations. The position provides assurance that field activities are conducted in an efficient, technically competent, safe, cost effective and environmentally responsible manner. The position reports to the Field Superintendent in Mozambique.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Supervision of all well delivery field operations including drilling, completion, well intervention and civil construction to maximise safety, quality and efficiency.
* Supervision and support of all wellsite supervisors, contractors, service companies, and/or vendors.
* Responsible for the overall safety of all field operations.
* Develop performance and commitment among wellsite supervisors, vendors, and service providers
* Providing high quality engineering support and input to programmes for all Well Delivery field activities.
* Review and optimise construction, drilling, completion, test programmes with the Wellsite Supervisor(s). Receive technical advice from and cooperate with colleagues from Drilling and Workover Engineering in London/Maputo.
* Develop a plan for the successful and efficient implementation of the programme to optimise operations.
* Support well and construction site supervisors regarding daily activities. Ensure all operations are conducted in the best interest of the Company and that local protocols are strictly complied with at all times.
* Responsible for ensuring that operational work instructions are aligned with company standards and well programmes including well examination critical element requirements
* Support the coordination of rig moves with rig, trucking, service, and third party personnel.
* Direct responsibility for well cost control and tracking to ensure delivery of operations within budget
* Responsible for accurate reporting on the status and operation of well delivery activities including civil construction.
* Responsible for ensuring that lessons learnt and NPT management systems are implemented effectively
* Responsible for operational continuous improvement initiatives and tools e.g. Corrective Action Register, Lessons Learnt Register, Well Site Performance coaching, pre- and post- section meetings.
* Responsible for development and maintenance of operational performance dashboard.
* Communicate effectively with the Wellsite Supervisor(s) and Well Engineer(s) to ensure that all technical specifications of the Operational Programme are met.
* Encourage an atmosphere of teamwork among the well delivery staff, well site personnel, service providers and other disciplines.
* Conduct meetings through the term of the contracts, with service providers, to increase the efficiency of the service and help reduce or eliminate any potential problems.
* Provide technical trouble shooting when problems occur.
* Perform periodic evaluations for the Wellsite Supervisor(s), Well Engineers and Drilling Technicians.
* Coordinate with the Well Engineer, Material & Logistics Coordinator/manager & Wellsite Supervisor(s) the timely arrival of well equipment and services.
* Coordinate activities and make frequent on-site inspections to ensure operations conform to plans, and are being carried out safely, efficiently, and economically.
* Evaluate efficiency of operations and propose and implement improvements when needed.
* Ensure effective and thorough end of well reporting including technical and commercial aspects and capturing all lessons learned for future wells in the area.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Engineering (preferably in Petroleum Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)
* Fluency in written and spoken use of the English language is required.
* Excellent in written, spoken communication and presentation skills are required
* Ability to work in a geographically dispersed virtual team is required.
* Ability to proactively react to continually changing levels of business work load.
* Hold a valid relevant Well Control Certificate (Supervisor Level)
* Associated relevant role certificates (HUET, Stuck Pipe Prevention, Csg Design, Directional Drilling courses, Cementing, Mud, etc)
* Operating environments including remote onshore, offshore jack-up and semi-submersible
* Planning and operational experience of exploration and development drilling projects in remote and developing African countries.
