Job Description: Required Proficiencies

* 3D CAD Proficiency, Pro/E Required

* Knowledge of designing fabricated components using manufacturing techniques such as sheet metal and structural members.

* Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques used in electronic equipment.

* Familiarity with UL such as UL508A, UL508C, UL 61800-5-1, UL50E and UL50 agency requirements and approval procedures, IEC a plus.

* Preferred prior experience in mechanics design for drives, industrial control panels, switchgear equipment, etc.

* Knowledge of various enclosure sealing methods.

Knowledge of enclosure finishing requirements for associated environment



WORKING TITLE: Senior Mechanical Designer

DEPARTMENT: Engineered Drives, Low Voltage Drives

LOCATION: Wauwatosa, WI



JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Product Engineering, Group Leader, the Senior Mechanical Designer prepares, in close association with the responsible design engineering department, work scope definition, design layout and detailed designs & drawings to satisfy requirements and conditions of the assigned project. The Senior Mechanical Designer assists internal customers in designing related functions and provides leadership and direction to less experienced staff, in accordance with company policies and procedures.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



Under general guidance, perform various duties requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard design principles and practices. Generate detailed mechanical and electro-mechanical design solutions and drawings for electrical systems and products. In depth knowledge of standard practices, precedents and reference sources to accomplish design intent.



Design sheet metal and/or plastic enclosures for Low Voltage (LV) enclosed drives in accordance with the product/customer requirements.



Perform mathematical calculations, prepare sketches, drawings and reference notes to support final drawings. Requires thorough knowledge of drafting and related practices to develop designs, drawings and layouts, ensure quality of complex designs and compliance with customer requirements.



Prepare specifications, BOM (bills of material) and related documents in accordance with requirements, establish formats and general instructions. Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports.



Review drawings of suppliers and supporting CAD personnel for conformance to customer specifications, approved practices, and standards and codes governing specific requirements of the product/project.



Maintain product documentation and automation databases for products, ensuring the completion and maintenance of all required documentation, paperwork, records, etc.



Plan, conduct or coordinate engineering analyses and tests, and prepare related reports and summaries, for review.



Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.



Required Proficiencies

Other duties will include

* Maintain technical competency and remain current in changes in the industry.

* Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.

* Practice strict compliance with all safety rules whenever working on energized electrical equipment and help enforce such safety standards with others who may be involved in work on such energized equipment.

* Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Requires a valid driver's license.



OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, calculator, telephone, photocopier, FAX, etc.
